A woman notices two payment notifications while a man holds new equipment in a community repair studio.

اذكر الحقائق بالترتيب، ثم اطلب إجراءً واحدًا: “We ordered one drill and paid 240 pounds by card, but you’ve charged us twice. Could you refund the second payment today and confirm by email?” السلعة “cost”، والبائع “charge”، والمشتري “pay for”.

maya Owen, did you order two cordless drills yesterday?

owen No, only one. It cost £240, and I paid for it by credit card.

maya The supplier has charged us twice. Our card statement shows £480.

owen That second charge could put the training budget into debt. We can't afford that.

maya I'll call them. Do we still owe anything on the older equipment loan?

owen Only £90. We have saved enough to pay that back next Friday, but not if this error remains.

maya Then I'll ask the supplier to reverse the duplicate payment today.

owen Good. If they do, we can still invest in the rooftop safety rail.

“cost” و“charge” و“pay for”: من يفعل ماذا؟

  • “The new drill cost 240 pounds.”
  • “The supplier charged the studio 240 pounds for the drill.”
  • “Owen paid for the drill with the studio card.” ومع المبلغ أو الفاتورة بلا “for”، مثل: “We paid 240 pounds”, “We paid the invoice”.
  • طريقة الدفع: “by credit card”, “by bank transfer”, “in cash”.

  • “The drill is worth about 200 pounds now, although it cost more.”
  • “The studio can’t afford to pay the same invoice twice.”
  • “owe” هو المال الذي ما زال عليك دفعه: “We still owe 90 pounds on the equipment loan.”
  • “borrow” تعني تقترض من أحد، و“lend” تعني تُقرض أحدًا: “Can I borrow 20 pounds?” لكن “Can you lend me 20 pounds?”

  • “We ordered one drill yesterday.”
  • “You’ve charged us twice.”
  • “The supplier has returned the duplicate payment.” أضف وقتًا فتتغيّر الصيغة: “The supplier returned the payment at 3:15 yesterday.”
Has the refund arrived yet?” “It hasn’t arrived yet.” “I’ve already emailed the receipt.”
We were charged twice for one drill, so the second payment needs to be returned.”

“Could you…?” تبدو مهذبة، واليوم المحدد والتأكيد المكتوب يجعلان الطلب حازمًا: “I understand mistakes happen, but we can’t wait until next month.”

I’m calling about an order we placed yesterday, reference 4471.”
We paid 240 pounds for one drill, but our statement shows two payments of 240 pounds.”
  • إجراء واحد: “Could you refund the second payment, please?” أو بلغة الدفع: “Could you reverse the duplicate charge?”
When will the money be back on the card?” “Could you confirm that by email, with a reference number?”
So, just to confirm: you’ll refund 240 pounds today and email me a reference.”

  • “Have you ever been charged twice? What did you do?”
  • “Is a payment problem easier to sort out by phone or by email? Why?”
  • “What have you bought recently that was worth the money?”

  • “I paid the drill.” قل “I paid for the drill.”
  • “The drill charged 240 pounds.” قل “The drill cost 240 pounds.” أو “They charged us 240 pounds.”
  • “I have ordered it yesterday.” الوقت المنتهي يحتاج إلى الماضي البسيط: “I ordered it yesterday.”
  • “We can’t afford paying twice.” قل “We can’t afford to pay twice.”

إذا كان الفاعل هو السلعة فاستخدم “cost”، مثل: “The new drill cost 240 pounds.” وإذا كان البائع فاستخدم “charge”، مثل: “They charged us 240 pounds.”

قل “We’ve been charged twice for the same order.” وفي الكلام اليومي تسمع أيضًا “I’ve been double-charged.”

Could you refund the second payment, please?” “Could you confirm that by email, with a reference number?”
