İngilizce pratiği

İngilizce kısa seyahat hikâyesi nasıl yazılır? B1 orta altı seviye: arka plan, dönüm noktası ve son

Two rainy-evening story moments: a man waits by a cinema, and another person finds a notebook near a bus stop and closed police station.

Arka plan için past continuous (“I was waiting outside the cinema”), olaylar için past simple kullanın (“when she sent me a message”). Türkçe burada yardımcıdır: “bekliyordum” çoğu zaman was/were + -ing’e, “mesaj attı” ise past simple’a denk gelir. Olayları when, suddenly, after that, because, so ve although ile bağlayın.

Write a short travel story

Two rainy-evening story moments: Owen waits by a cinema, and Priya finds a notebook near a bus stop and closed police station.

THE BLUE UMBRELLA

Last October, I was staying in Bristol with my friend Lena. One rainy evening, we left a cafe and I took a blue umbrella from the stand by the door. When we reached our hotel, I saw a label on it: ‘M. Patel, Riverside Theatre.’ It wasn't my umbrella.

Because the theatre was only ten minutes away, we walked back through the rain. While the receptionist was calling Ms Patel, a violinist came downstairs with my black umbrella. She made exactly the same mistake, so we exchanged them and laughed.

After that, she offered us two empty seats for that evening's concert. Although our clothes were wet and we missed our bus, the music was wonderful. In the end, the wrong umbrella became the best part of our weekend.

What does a clear short narrative need?

Set the scene, show what was happening, order the main events, explain one reason or result, and finish with the outcome and reaction.

The model below is a complete travel-blog story, not a list of notes.

Kısa bir hikâyenin beş parçası

Her parçaya bir iki cümle yeter:

  • Sahne: “Last October, I was staying with friends in Porto.”
  • Arka plan: “It was raining, and we were looking for a taxi.”
  • Ana olaylar: “A bus stopped, and we got on.”
  • Sonuç: “It was the wrong bus, so we ended up on the other side of the city.”
  • Son ve tepki: “Although we were lost, we found a wonderful little restaurant there.”

Sahneyi at, in ve on ile kurmak

  • in: şehir, ülke, ay ve günün bölümleri: “in Porto”, “in April”, “in the evening”
  • on: gün, tarih ve toplu taşıma: “on Friday”, “on 3 May”, “on the train”
  • at: saat, belirli bir nokta ve bazı kalıplar: “at eight thirty”, “at the station”, “at night”
  • last, next ve this’in önüne edat gelmez: “last June”; “in last June” denmez.

Arka plan için past continuous, olaylar için past simple

Past continuous (was/were + -ing) zaten sürmekte olan bir eylemi gösterir; past simple durumu değiştiren olayları anlatır. İkisi buluşunca uzun eylem continuous, araya giren kısa olay simple olur, tıpkı “Sinemanın önünde bekliyordum, mesaj attı.” cümlesindeki gibi. Konuşmada was ve were çoğunlukla zayıf söylenir: /wəz/, /wə/.

  • Arka plan: “It was raining, and people were waiting under the trees.”
  • Kesintiye uğrayan eylem: “We were carrying the boxes when the rain started.”
  • Art arda olaylar: “I opened my bag, looked inside and found my passport.”
  • Durum fiilleri simple kalır: “I knew him from college.” Türkçede “tanıyordum” desek de İngilizcede “I was knowing him” denmez.

Kısa bir konuşma: planların bozulduğu akşam

Arka plana (“was waiting”), sonuca (“so”), dönüm noktasına (“Suddenly”) ve sondaki karşıtlığa (“Although”) kulak verin.

Maya Did you ever miss a film you really wanted to see?

Owen Yes, once. One rainy evening, I was waiting for Anna outside the cinema when she sent me a message.

Maya What happened?

Owen Her bus broke down, so she was very late. The rain got heavier, and I went into the cafe across the street.

Maya Was that the end of your evening?

Owen No. Suddenly, someone called my name. It was Dev, an old college friend. I last saw him five years ago.

Sıralama ve bağlama sözcükleri

Sıralama ifadeleri olayları sıraya koyar; because, so ve although ise onları birbirine bağlar.

  • Başlangıç: “One rainy evening last October, …”
  • Aynı an: “When I checked my phone, I saw her message.”
  • Daha sonra: “Two minutes later”, “After that”, “The next day”
  • Dönüm noktası: “Suddenly, someone called my name.”
  • Neden ve sonuç: “She was late because her bus broke down, so I went into the café.” Türkçede neden önce gelir (“otobüsü bozulduğu için”); İngilizcede because’lu kısım çoğunlukla ana cümleden sonra gelir.
  • Karşıtlık: “Although we missed the film, we had a great evening.”
  • Son: “In the end” “sonunda” demektir; “at the end of the evening” ise akşamın bittiği andır.

  • Çok iyi: “The view from our room was wonderful.”
  • İdare eder: “The hostel was basic, but it was not bad for the price.”
  • Çok kötü: “The trip home was awful because the train was late.”

Sık yapılan hatalar

Hepsinin kolay bir düzeltmesi var:

  • “when she was sending me a message.” Araya giren olay past simple olur: “when she sent me a message.”
  • “Although we missed the film, but …” although ya da but: ikisinden biri yeter.
  • “We were going camping every summer.” Alışkanlık için: “We went camping every summer.” ya da “We used to go camping every summer.”
  • “I didn’t went.” didn’t’ten sonra fiilin yalın hâli gelir: “I didn’t go.”

  • 3 dakika: Sahneyi, arka planı, iki olayı ve sonu not alın.
  • 6 dakika: when, so ya da because ve although kullanarak 120–150 kelime yazın.

Arka plan için ve başka bir şey olduğu sırada süren eylem için: “I was waiting outside the cinema when she called.” Hikâyeyi ilerleten olaylar past simple ile anlatılır.

Because, so ve although arasındaki fark nedir?

Because nedeni, so sonucu verir; although ise şaşırtıcı bir karşıtlık ekler: “Although we missed the film, we had a great evening.”
