ما الفرق بين mustn’t وdon’t have to؟

Three friends look at the picture signs in a school corridor next to a lost-property box.

كيف تتحدث عن القواعد بالإنجليزية باستخدام can وmust وmustn’t وhave to وdon’t have to، وتسأل “Are we allowed to…?”

استخدم “must” أو “have to” لشيء ضروري، و“mustn’t” أو “can’t” لشيء غير مسموح به، و“don’t have to” لشيء غير ضروري. أهم ثنائي: “You mustn’t run.” ، أما “You don’t have to run.”

A2 Key for Schools.
  • من يعرف “must” لكنه يخلط بين “mustn’t” و“don’t have to”، أو يكتب “must to”.

Tips from Year 8

AMARA: I'm new too. I started at Harbour Park this September. On my first day, I got lost and walked into the wrong classroom! My tip: ask for a school map in the library. The librarian can give you one. And don't be afraid to ask other pupils. Most people here are really friendly.

KAI: Here's my best tip: the dining room gets very busy after 12.45, so go early. You don't have to buy lunch. You can bring food from home. Oh, and you mustn't use your phone in lessons. Teachers take it away until the end of the day!

ZARA: Always look at your timetable the night before. Put your books, a pencil and a ruler in your bag before you go to bed. You must be in class at 8.45, so don't be late. If you have a problem, you can talk to any teacher.

How to give tips

How do you give tips to a new pupil?

You can ask for a map. You must be on time. Don't run in the corridors. Always check your timetable.

After can, must and mustn't, use the verb with no "to": You must go (not: You must to go).

  • You can ...
  • You must ...
  • You mustn't ...
  • You don't have to ...

  • “can” تعني مسموح: “You can borrow three books.”
  • “can’t” تعني غير مسموح: “You can’t use your phone in lessons.”
  • “must” تعني قاعدة: “You must be in class by 8.30.”
  • “have to” أو “has to” تعني ضروري: “We have to wear trainers in the gym.”
  • “mustn’t” تعني لا تفعل: “You mustn’t run in the corridors.”
  • “don’t have to” تعني غير ضروري: “You don’t have to buy lunch.”

mustn’t أم don’t have to: الفرق المهم

في الجمل المثبتة يعني “must” و“have to” أن الشيء ضروري. فكّر بالعربية: «ممنوع» تقابل “mustn’t”، و«لست مضطرًا» تقابل “don’t have to”.

  • “You mustn’t eat in the lab. It isn’t safe.”
  • “You don’t have to wear a uniform.”
  • “It’s Saturday, so I don’t have to get up early.”

انتبه إلى “had to”: ليس لـ“must” صيغة ماضٍ، لذلك فإن ماضي “must” و“have to” كليهما هو “had to”.

Student Look at these signs for the guide. This one means you mustn't run.

Friend And that one means you can't use your phone in the library.

New student At my school in Accra, we had to wear a uniform.

Friend Here we don't have to wear one. I can wear my green hoodie every day!

Student But you have to be on time. The notice says pupils must be in class at 8.45.

السؤال عن قاعدة: “Can I…?” و“Are we allowed to…?”

أو “Are we allowed to…?”، ولتسأل إن كان ضروريًا قل “Do I have to…?”. العربية لا تستخدم فعلًا مساعدًا مثل “do” في السؤال، لذلك يسهل أن تقول “We have to wear a uniform?”، والصواب: “Do we have to wear a uniform?”.

  • السؤال: “Can I sit here?” والجواب: “Yes, you can.”
  • السؤال: “Are we allowed to use calculators?” والجواب: “No, we aren’t.”
  • السؤال: “Do I have to bring a dictionary?” والجواب: “No, you don’t.”

  • الإعلان: “POOL: Students must wear a swimming cap.” ومعناه: “You need a cap to swim here.”
  • الإعلان: “No food in the computer room.” ومعناه: “You can’t eat in the computer room.”
  • الإعلان: “Sports Day: no uniform needed.” ومعناه: “You don’t have to wear a uniform on Sports Day.”

بعد “can” و“must” يأتي الفعل بلا “to” وبلا -s، ووحدها “have to” تحتفظ بـ“to” وتصبح “has to” مع he وshe وit.

  • خطأ: “No running! You don’t have to run.” والصواب: “No running! You mustn’t run.”
  • خطأ: “You must to be on time.” والصواب: “You must be on time.”
  • خطأ: “She have to take the bus.” والصواب: “She has to take the bus.”
  • خطأ: “Yesterday we must stay late.” والصواب: “Yesterday we had to stay late.”

  • “You must be at school by 8.30. You can borrow library books. You mustn’t eat in the computer room. You don’t have to wear a uniform on Fridays. Always pack your bag the night before.”
  • الدقائق 8–10: كما في الجزء 1 من اختبار المحادثة، أجب بصوت مرتفع عن “Tell me something about your school.”

ما الفرق بين “mustn’t” و“don’t have to”؟

“mustn’t” تعني أن الشيء غير مسموح: “You mustn’t run.”

هل “must” و“have to” بالمعنى نفسه؟

اللافتات تستخدم “must” كثيرًا، وفي المحادثة “have to” أكثر شيوعًا.

قل “Can I…?”، مثل “Can I open the window?”. وللسؤال عن قاعدة قل “Are we allowed to…?”. أما “May I…?”
