A woman listens to a phone message while a man sorts cards at the same table.

Which details changed and which stayed the same?

The collection moves from Thursday outdoors to Friday inside the greenhouse. The hours and order number stay the same.

The message explicitly changes the day and location while retaining the nine-to-one collection window and order number.

Strategy

  • Mark the earlier plan as background when it is corrected.
  • Listen for the current time, place and reason together.
  • Do not change a detail that the speaker says remains the same.

Change a plan clearly

Create a starting plan

  • Choose a service, item or appointment.
  • Set your own day, time window and location.

Create the update

A message about a delivery appointment

Hello, this is a message from Northbank Cycle Co-operative about the delivery of the cargo bicycle you ordered. The bicycle has passed its final assembly check, and we are offering delivery on Tuesday between two and four in the afternoon. Please reply by noon tomorrow to confirm that someone will be at your address. If that time is unsuitable, include two alternative afternoon dates in your reply. There is no need to call the workshop unless you have a technical question about the bicycle. If you would like a short demonstration of the new gear controls, the driver can provide one when the bicycle arrives. The demonstration is optional and adds about ten minutes. The delivery fee has already been paid.

What is required, and what is optional?

The customer must reply by noon tomorrow about delivery availability. A demonstration of the gear controls is optional.

The message uses a clear reply deadline for the required action and explicitly labels the demonstration optional.

Strategy

  • Find what the listener must do next.
  • Separate a required action from optional assistance.
  • Track deadlines and conditions that affect the response.

Reply to a service message

Service choices

  • Delivery of a repaired lamp, a borrowed projector, or a flat-pack display stand.
  • Choose an afternoon delivery window and reply deadline.
  • Offer one optional explanation or setup demonstration.

Listener choice

  • Accept the proposed window or give two alternatives.
  • Accept or decline the optional help politely.
  • Confirm that both sides understand the arrangement.

Part 4 nasıl işler?

Part 4’te her biri üç sorulu 10 konuşma vardır. Tipik sorular:

  • Dinleyici: “Who most likely are the listeners?”
  • Amaç: “Why is the speaker calling?”
  • Değişiklikler: “What has been changed?”
  • Yapılacak işler: “What are listeners asked to do?”

Konuşmacılar dinleyiciyi ve amacı genellikle en başta söyler: “This is a collection update for customers who ordered seedling trays” cümlesi ikisini de verir. Yanlış amaç seçenekleri çoğu zaman arka plan bilgisini tekrarlar; zemin onarımı yalnızca ana girişin neden kapalı olduğunu açıklar. Şu açılışları yakalayın:

  • “This message is for…”, “Attention, all passengers…”: dinleyici.
  • “I’m calling about…”, “I’d like to remind everyone…”: amaç.
  • “Welcome to those joining us for the first time”: daha dar bir dinleyici grubu.

Gerekçe de sorulur: “Because heavy rain is expected” cümlesi “Why was the collection moved?” sorusunun cevabıdır.

  • Önce: “originally”, “was scheduled for”. Burada: perşembe, açık alan.
  • Şimdi: “will now”, “has been moved to”, “instead”. Burada: cuma, seranın içi.
  • Aynı kalan: “remain”, “has not changed”, “still”.

“What are listeners asked to do?” ile “What does the speaker offer?” farklı sorulardır.

Bu sesli mesajı ayrıştırın: “Please collect your new laptop from the IT desk by Thursday. If you’d like help moving your files, you can book a short session.”

  • Zorunlu: “Please…”, “You need to…”. Burada: dizüstü bilgisayarı perşembeye kadar almak.
  • Koşullu: “If…, please…”. Yalnızca bazı dinleyiciler harekete geçer.
  • İsteğe bağlı: “If you’d like…”, “Feel free to…”. Burada: dosya taşıma oturumu.

Değişikliğin ve kuralın dil bilgisi

Son satıra dikkat edin: “must not” bir işi yasaklar, “don’t have to” ise yalnızca zorunluluğu kaldırır; tıpkı “park etmemelisiniz” ile “cevap vermek zorunda değilsiniz” arasındaki fark gibi.

  • “The meeting has been moved to Room 4.” Present perfect passive: değişiklik tamamlanmıştır; kimin yaptığı önemli değildir.
  • “The main hall is being redecorated.” Present continuous passive: süren bir iş; çoğu zaman değişikliğin gerekçesidir.
  • “Monday’s training moves to the new workshop.” Planlanmış bir değişiklik için present simple.
  • “You must sign the list” (zorunlu), “You must not park here” (yasak), “You don’t have to reply” (isteğe bağlı).

Sık yapılan hatalar

Puan kaybettiren alışkanlıklar:

  • İlk duyduğunuz için eski planı seçmek.
  • Konuşmacının koruduğu bir ayrıntıyı, örneğin saatleri, değiştirmek.
  • İsteğe bağlı yardımı zorunlu bir iş sanmak.
  • Bir koşulu kaçırmak: “If Friday is impossible…” yalnızca bazı dinleyiciler için geçerlidir.
  • “don’t have to” ifadesini “must not” gibi anlamak.

  • Konuşmayı tek cümleyle özetleyin: “Collection moves to Friday in the greenhouse, same hours; reply by Wednesday if you can’t come.”
(“If I were writing it, I’d…”)

Sırada ne var?

İki kişilik konuşmalar hâlâ elinizden kaçıyorsa Part 3’e dönün. Konuşmaları rahat takip ediyorsanız Reading Part 5’e, ardından duyuruların koşulları yazılı olarak verdiği Part 7’ye geçin.

Sık sorulan sorular

TOEIC Listening Part 4’te kaç soru var?

Otuz: her biri üç sorulu on konuşma. Her konuşma bir kez çalınır.

Her konuşmadan önce soruları okumalı mıyım?

Evet. Her seti hızlıca cevaplayın, kalan sürede sonraki üç soruyu okuyun.
