직장에서 영어로 나라와 국적을 말하는 법 (A1–A2 초급): Japan과 Japanese, his·her·its 구분

A woman meets a colleague and introduces another colleague.

나라 이름은 “from”이나 “in” 뒤에, 국적은 “I’m”, “he’s”, “she’s” 뒤에 씁니다: “She’s from Japan.” 또는 “She’s Japanese.” 회사를 말할 때는 “it”과 “its”를 씁니다: “It’s a Portuguese company. Its head office is in Porto.” – “Yes, it is.”

  • 아직 “He’s Poland.”

나라 이름은 “from”이나 “in” 뒤에 씁니다: “I’m from India.”, “Our office is in Poland.” 국적은 형용사로 씁니다: “I’m Indian.”, “It’s a Polish company.”

일부 나라 이름에는 “the”가 붙습니다: “the UK”, “the USA”, “the Netherlands”. 국적에는 “the”를 붙이지 않습니다: “He’s from the UK. He’s British.”

  • “the UK” – “British” (영국 – 영국의)
  • “South Korea” – “Korean” (“I’m from South Korea. I’m Korean.”)

“Are you …?”나 “Is …?”로 묻고 짧게 대답하세요: “Yes, I am.”, “No, she isn’t.”

  • “Are you …?” – “Yes, I am.” / “No, I’m not.”
  • “Is she …?” – “Yes, she is.” / “No, she isn’t.”
  • “Is your company …?” – “Yes, it is.” / “No, it isn’t.”

Owen Are you Maya Cole?

Maya Yes, I am. I'm an operations coordinator.

Owen Is your company Portuguese?

Maya Yes, it is. Its head office is in Porto.

Owen Is Keiko from Poland?

Maya No, she isn't. She's Japanese, but her company is in Poland.

his, her, its는 어떻게 구분할까요?

나와 우리 팀에는 “our”를 씁니다: “Our manager is Indian.”

“Her company”는 그 사람이 소유한 회사가 아니라 일하는 회사를 뜻합니다: “She’s Japanese, but her company is in Poland.” “its”와 “it’s”도 헷갈리지 마세요. “its”는 소유를, “it’s”는 “it is”를 뜻합니다.

  • “His name is Owen. He’s British.”
  • “Her company is Polish.”
  • “Its head office is in Leeds.”
  • “It’s a Portuguese company. Its office is in Porto.”

동료를 소개할 때는 “This is my colleague, Keiko.”라고 하고, 상대방은 “Nice to meet you, Keiko.” – “You too. Have a good journey.”

  • “Name: Maya Cole” – “This is Maya Cole.”
  • “Job: operations coordinator” – “She’s an operations coordinator.”
  • “Nationality: Portuguese” – “She’s Portuguese.”
  • “Company: Portuguese” – “Her company is Portuguese.”
  • “Head office: Porto” – “Its head office is in Porto.”

  • “She’s Japan.” “she’s” 뒤에는 국적을 씁니다: “She’s Japanese.” 또는 “from”을 쓰세요: “She’s from Japan.”
  • “He’s from UK.” 한국어에는 관사가 없어서 “the”를 빠뜨리기 쉽습니다: “He’s from the UK.”
  • “japanese”, “polish”.
  • “Keiko is from Poland?” 질문에서는 “is”가 앞으로 옵니다: “Is Keiko from Poland?”
  • “Yes, it’s.” 짧은 대답은 “Yes, it is.”
  • “It’s head office is in Leeds.”

This is … She’s … Her company is in …”
Is your company …?” – “Yes, it is.”

나라는 장소입니다: “Japan”, “Poland”, “the UK”. “I’m from Poland.” 또는 “I’m Polish.”라고 하고, “I’m Poland.”

영어에서 “its”와 “it’s”는 언제 쓰나요?

“its”는 사물이나 회사, 동물이 가진 것을 나타냅니다: “Its head office is in Leeds.” “it’s”는 “it is” 또는 “it has”의 줄임말입니다: “It’s a British company.” “it is”로 바꿔 말할 수 있으면 “it’s”를 쓰세요.

회의가 끝날 때 “Nice to meet you”와 “Nice meeting you” 중 무엇을 말하나요?

처음 만났을 때는 “Nice to meet you.”, 헤어질 때는 “Nice meeting you.” 또는 “It was nice to meet you.” 두 경우 모두 “You too.”
