Two colleagues look at charts from a product test.

제품의 어떤 점이 좋은지 정확한 형용사로 말하고 이유를 덧붙이세요: “The booking site is user-friendly: customers can change a date in two clicks.” 테스트 결과는 과거시제(past simple)로, 누가 참여했고 무엇을 골랐으며 왜 골랐는지 순서대로 말합니다: “Nineteen preferred Model B because it lasted longer.”

Case: Products & services

Maya and Owen discuss the charger test results.

Northline's product team tested two portable chargers with 24 staff volunteers. Model A was lighter and easier to use; Model B lasted four hours longer and had a two-year warranty. Nineteen volunteers preferred Model B for business travel. The team recommends Model B, while recording that this is an internal test rather than a market study.

Discuss the case facts

Maya and Owen compare product information.

Maya Which charger should we recommend to frequent business travellers?

Owen I recommend Model B. Nineteen of the twenty-four volunteers preferred it, and its battery lasted four hours longer.

Maya That sounds promising. Is there any reason to be careful?

Owen Yes. It was only an internal test, so we should run a small customer trial before the launch.

Rehearse form and meaning

Maya and Owen compare product information.

Maya Did the team test both chargers with customers?

Owen No, they didn't test them with customers. They tested them with twenty-four staff volunteers.

Maya What did the volunteers prefer?

Owen Nineteen volunteers preferred Model B because it lasted longer.

Maya Good. What should the team do next?

Owen They should test Model B with customers before they launch it.

Giving a research report

“good value”는 우리말의 “가성비가 좋다”에 가깝고, 영국 영어에서는 보통 “a” 없이 “It’s good value”라고 합니다.

  • “reliable” (문제가 잘 생기지 않는, 믿을 수 있는): “The courier is reliable: every order arrived on time.”
  • “user-friendly” (사용하기 쉬운): “The booking site is user-friendly: customers can change a date in two clicks.”
  • “good value” (가격만큼의 가치가 있는): “At forty euros, the repair plan is good value.”
  • “high quality” (품질이 매우 좋은): “These headphones are high quality. They still sound clear after four years.”

얼마나? very, quite, pretty, extremely

한국어에는 관사가 없어 놓치기 쉽지만, 관사는 바로 뒤 단어의 소리에 맞춥니다: “a very reliable courier”, 하지만 “an extremely reliable courier”.

  • “The medical scanner must be extremely reliable.”
  • “The new expenses app is quite user-friendly.”
  • “The basic support package is pretty good value.”

제안으로 넘어갈 때는 현재시제로 돌아오세요: “Nineteen preferred Model B, so we recommend it.”

  • “We tested two models.” –
  • “Model B lasted longer.” – 규칙 동사 -ed
  • “Did users prefer it?” – did + 동사원형
  • “They didn’t test the price.” – didn’t +

Maya We tested two chargers with twenty-four staff volunteers.

Owen What did the research show?

Maya Nineteen preferred Model B because it lasted longer.

Owen Were there any limits?

Maya Yes. It was an internal test, not a market study.

Owen Then let's recommend B and state that limitation.

“Really?”

  • “Really?”
  • “That sounds useful.”
  • “How did the users respond?”
  • “What happened next?”
  • “Were there any limits?”

Our product team tested two portable chargers with 24 staff volunteers.”
Model A was lighter and easier to use. Model B lasted four hours longer, and 19 volunteers preferred it.”
We recommend Model B for business travellers. This was an internal test, not a market study.”
Run a small customer trial of Model B by the end of May, before the launch.”

  • “Did users preferred it?” “did” 뒤에는 동사원형을 씁니다: “Did users prefer it?”
  • “They didn’t tested the price.” 같은 규칙입니다: “They didn’t test the price.”
  • “The price is cheap.” “The price is low” 또는 “It’s good value”라고 하세요.
  • “Customers prefer Model B.” 근거는 직원에게서 나왔습니다: “Nineteen of our twenty-four volunteers preferred Model B.”

“be” 동사 뒤에서는 보통 하이픈 없이 씁니다: “The product is high quality.”

예: “It was an internal test, not a market study.” 그다음 다음 단계를 말합니다: “We will run a small customer trial before the launch.”
