At a community cinema ticket desk, two children compare a matinee and evening performance using clock, seat and price pictures; an adult clerk stands behind the desk.

9~12歳(A2)の子どもが英語で“What time does it start?”

英語で公演についてたずねるとき、子どもは“What time does it start?”と聞き、現在形(present simple)で答えます:“It starts at seven.” 公演が売り切れなら別の回を提案し(“Can we see the evening performance, not the matinee?”)、それを確かめます:“Are there any seats left for that?”

いちばん大事な質問は“What time does it start?” “It will start at seven.”

には“does”にあたる言葉がないので、子どもはよく“What time it starts?” 同じ形で“When does it finish?”

Nia What time does it start?

Leo It starts at seven.

At、on、in:時刻、曜日、日付

順番は“at seven on Friday”でも“on Friday at seven”でもかまいません。“in the evening”なのに“on Friday evening”になる点にも注意しましょう。

  • at:at seven、at half past six
  • on:on Saturday、on 18 October
  • in:in October、in the afternoon

Leo The matinee is sold out.

Nia Can we see the evening performance, not the matinee?

Leo Are there any seats left for that?

Nia Yes. The clerk says two seats are left.

“Are there any seats left?” 答えには数か“no”が入ります:“There are two seats left.”、“There are no seats left.” 確認するときは内容をくり返します:“So that’s two seats for Saturday at three?” “Yes, that’s right.”

FILM NIGHT”
MOON GARDEN: a new mystery film”
Starring Lily Park and Omar Hayes”
Community Hall · Friday 18 October · 7:00 p.m.”
Tickets: €5 · Book at the library desk.”

家族の1人がお客さんのように聞きます:“Where is it?”、“How much are the tickets?”、“How do I book?” You can book at the library desk.”

  • “What time it starts?”:質問には“does”が必要です:“What time does it start?”
  • “What time does it starts?”:“does”のあとの動詞に-sはつけません:“What time does it start?”
  • “It start at seven.”:“it”のときは-sをつけます:“It starts at seven.”
  • “Is there any seats left?”:“seats”は複数なので“are”です:“Are there any seats left?”

The matinee was sold out, so we booked the evening show.”

“It starts at seven”と“It will start at seven”、どちらが正しい?

“It will start at seven.”
