leaveは承認を得て仕事を休む期間で、annual leave(年次有給休暇)、unpaid leave(無給休暇)、paternity leave(父親になる人のための休暇)などがあります。 「有給を取る」は“take paid leave”や“take a day off”と言えます。
- “Our core hours are 10:00 to 16:00.”:コアタイムは10時から16時です。
- “Overtime needs written approval from your manager.”:
- “He is taking two weeks of paternity leave on full pay.”:
なお、“I suggest starting at eight.”が正しく、“I suggest to start”とは言いません。
- “We decided to test flexitime for twelve weeks.”:
- “Would you mind covering the phones until six?”:6
“stop to do”か、“stop doing”か
- “Yesterday, we stopped to answer a call.”:
- “We stopped answering calls.”:
Maya I plan to leave at six, but I still need to answer the support queue.
Owen I enjoy handling urgent cases. I can cover it until six.
Maya Thanks. I stopped answering routine calls at five so I could finish the report.
Owen Good. I’ll take the urgent calls, and you can leave on time.
便利な表現は“We’d like to test …”(…を試したいと考えています)と“We’ll review the results on …”(…
Maya What problem is the studio trying to solve?
Owen Two experienced employees may leave because long hours conflict with family commitments.
Maya What will the company test?
Owen A twelve-week pilot of flexitime, one home-working day and clearer core hours, measured against retention, deadlines and client satisfaction.
- Scope: Design team, 12 weeks
- Terms: Flexitime around 10:00–16:00 core hours; one home-working day a week; written approval for overtime
- Measures: Retention, missed deadlines, client satisfaction
- Owner: Studio manager
- Launch: Publish terms on 3 October; pilot runs 10 October to 2 January; review results on 9 January
- “Yes, that works for me.”:はい、それで大丈夫です。
- “I’d be happy to.”:喜んで。
- “Certainly. When do you need it?”:もちろんです。
- “Yes, provided we finish by five.”:
- “I enjoy to work from home.” 正しくは“I enjoy working from home.”です。
- “I stopped to check emails after seven.” もう確認しないという意味なら“I stopped checking emails after seven.”です。
- “I have five leaves left.” leaveは不可算名詞です:“I have five days of leave left.”
- “The pilot will improve retention.” 結果が出る前なら“The pilot will measure retention.”
- 3分:plan to、enjoy、avoid、stop to、stop doingを使って、ご自分について本当のことを5文言います。
- 週1回の意見の質問:“Should companies ban work emails after seven, or should each person decide?”(会社は夜7時以降の業務メールを禁止すべきですか、それとも各自が決めるべきですか?)
