Workplace materials for working life.

仕事内容を英語で説明するためのB1表現:work as、in、for、responsible for、in charge of、deal with、“mainly”の位置、日常業務と現在のプロジェクトの区別、会社サイト用の短いプロフィール。

役割と会社(“I work full-time as a programme manager for Harbour Learning.”)、現在形で言う日常業務(“I mainly coordinate trainers and client schedules.”)、現在進行形で言う現在のプロジェクト(“At the moment, I’m preparing a three-day technician course in Hamburg.”)

  • 肩書きは言えても、“So what does your role involve?”(具体的にはどんなお仕事ですか?)
  • まだ早い場合:“I’m an engineer.”や“I work in sales.”

  • “I work full-time as a programme manager for Harbour Learning.”:
  • “I mainly coordinate trainers and client schedules, and I work with our customer-service team.”:
  • “My role consists of planning courses and solving delivery problems.”:
  • “At the moment, I’m preparing a three-day technician course in Hamburg.”:

“work as”の後には職業、“work in”の後には部署や分野、“work for”の後には雇用主が来ます。 日本語の「担当しています」をそのまま訳して何でも“I’m in charge of”と言いがちですが、日常業務には“I’m responsible for”や“I mainly …”

“I mainly coordinate trainers.”が自然で、“I coordinate mainly trainers.”

  • “Owen works as an account manager for a logistics company.”:
  • “Maya works in customer operations at the Berlin office.”:
  • “Owen is responsible for checking every distributor order before dispatch.”:
  • “The support desk deals with delivery queries from international clients.”:
  • “Maya is mainly responsible for scheduling, and she mainly deals with urgent changes.”:

目印になるのはthis month、at the moment、these daysです。

読解チェック:“Daniel normally delivers two courses a month, but this month he is developing a new simulation for a wind-farm client.”

  • “Daniel normally delivers two courses a month.”:
  • “He is developing a new simulation this month.”:
  • “More clients are requesting virtual practice these days.”:
  • “Priya understands the booking system.”:状態動詞なので“is understanding”とは言いません

便利な質問は“What does that involve?”(具体的には何をするのですか?)と“Who are you working with on that?”(どなたと一緒に進めているのですか?)です。

Maya I normally coordinate client schedules, but this month I’m preparing a course for forty technicians.

Owen That sounds interesting! What are the main scheduling challenges?

Maya Two trainers are travelling, and the client needs an earlier start.

Owen Is that right? I work with travelling trainers, too. It would be good to compare plans.

  • “I’m responsible of the budget.” 前置詞は“for”です:“responsible for the budget”。
  • “This month I prepare a course.”
  • “I’m knowing the system.” 状態動詞は現在形のままです:“I know the system.”
  • “I work as manager.” 日本語には冠詞がないので抜けやすいのですが、“as”の後の職業には“a/an”が必要です:“I work as a manager.”

役割と会社、“mainly”と業務2つ、“My role consists of …”、“At the moment, I’m …”。
  • 2分:同僚2人を“works in”、“deals with”、“specializes in”で紹介します。
  • 3分:会話を1行ずつまねて言い、“What are the main challenges?”
  • 週1回の意見の質問:“Which part of your job takes most of your time, and is that changing?”(仕事で最も時間を使う部分はどこで、それは変わってきていますか?)

決まった表現に具体例を添えましょう:“I’m responsible for checking every order before dispatch.” または “I mainly deal with delivery queries.”

“responsible for”と“in charge of”はどう違いますか?

“responsible for”は、やり遂げて責任を負う業務です:“I’m responsible for the monthly report.” “in charge of”は、チームやイベントなど何かを率いることを表します:“I’m in charge of the customer demonstration this afternoon.”

会社について“work in”、“work at”、“work for”のどれを使いますか?

“work for”は雇用主を表します:“I work for a logistics company.” “work at”は場所に使います:“I work at the Berlin office.” “work in”は部署や分野に使います:“I work in finance.” “work as”は職業に使います:“I work as an account manager.”
