A woman notices two payment notifications while a man holds new equipment in a community repair studio.

“We ordered one drill and paid £240 by card, but you’ve charged us twice. Could you refund the second payment today and confirm by email?”

maya Owen, did you order two cordless drills yesterday?

owen No, only one. It cost £240, and I paid for it by credit card.

maya The supplier has charged us twice. Our card statement shows £480.

owen That second charge could put the training budget into debt. We can't afford that.

maya I'll call them. Do we still owe anything on the older equipment loan?

owen Only £90. We have saved enough to pay that back next Friday, but not if this error remains.

maya Then I'll ask the supplier to reverse the duplicate payment today.

owen Good. If they do, we can still invest in the rooftop safety rail.

  • “The new drill cost £240.”
  • “The supplier charged the studio £240 for the drill.” –
  • “Owen paid for the drill with the studio card.” “We paid £240”, “We paid the invoice”。
  • 支払い方法:“by credit card”, “by bank transfer”, “in cash”。

  • “The drill is worth about £200 now, although it cost more.” – “worth”
  • “The studio can’t afford to pay the same invoice twice.”
“We still owe £90 on the equipment loan.”
“Can I borrow £20?” と “Can you lend me £20?”

  • “We ordered one drill yesterday.” –
  • “You’ve charged us twice.” –
  • “The supplier has returned the duplicate payment.” “The supplier returned the payment at 3:15 yesterday.”
Has the refund arrived yet?” “It hasn’t arrived yet.” “I’ve already emailed the receipt.”
We were charged twice for one drill, so the second payment needs to be returned.”

Maya The supplier has charged us twice. Our card statement shows £480.

Owen That second charge could put the training budget into debt. We can't afford that.

Maya Then I'll ask the supplier to reverse the duplicate payment today.

“Could you…?” “I understand mistakes happen, but we can’t wait until next month.”

I’m calling about an order we placed yesterday, reference 4471.”
We paid £240 for one drill, but our statement shows two payments of £240.”
  • 対応を一つ:“Could you refund the second payment, please?” 支払いの用語では“Could you reverse the duplicate charge?”
When will the money be back on the card?” “Could you confirm that by email, with a reference number?”
So, just to confirm: you’ll refund £240 today and email me a reference.”

  • “Have you ever been charged twice? What did you do?”
  • “Is a payment problem easier to sort out by phone or by email? Why?”
  • “What have you bought recently that was worth the money?”

  • “I paid the drill.” → “I paid for the drill.”
  • “The drill charged £240.” → “The drill cost £240.” または “They charged us £240.”
  • “I have ordered it yesterday.” “I ordered it yesterday.”
  • “We can’t afford paying twice.” → “We can’t afford to pay twice.”
