some أم any، وmuch أم many؟

Bakery Friday: fresh bread, sandwiches and fruit in the canteen, with happy students.

كيف تكتب اقتراحًا لمقصف المدرسة من 25 إلى 40 كلمة باستخدام “I think we should … because …”، وتستخدم some وany وmuch وmany وكلمات الطعام استخدامًا صحيحًا.

الاقتراح القصير عن طعام المدرسة يحتاج إلى أربعة أشياء: تحية مثل “Dear Mr Ross,”، وفكرة واحدة واضحة مثل “I think we should have a fruit day.” والأخطاء الشائعة تقع في كلمات الطعام: قل “some bread” لا “a bread”، واستخدم “any” في النفي والسؤال، و“much” مع الحليب و“many” مع البيض.

A2 Key for Schools.
  • من يعرف كلمات الطعام، لكنه يخلط عند الكتابة بين “some” و“any” أو بين “much” و“many”.

Examiner You will hear Amara talking to Mrs Dunn, the canteen manager, about food at school.

Amara Thank you for this interview, Mrs Dunn. Why isn't there any fresh bread in the canteen now?

Woman Some people think students don't like bread, but that isn't true. They love it! And the bakery near the school is still open. The problem is money. Fresh bread is too expensive for us now.

Amara How much money does the canteen have for each student's lunch?

Woman Two pounds. Last year it was three pounds. And a cheese sandwich with fresh bread costs us one pound fifty to make.

Amara So what do students buy now?

Woman We sell a lot of biscuits, but most students buy crisps. There's some fruit too, but not many students choose it.

Amara What would you like to sell?

Woman Not soup. Students don't eat much soup. And we've got salad already. I'd really like to sell cheese sandwiches with fresh bread again.

Amara Can The Loop help? We could ask the students what they want.

Woman Everyone wants bread, Amara! You don't need to ask them. Talk to a bakery first. Then talk to the head teacher.

Amara Good idea. First, I'll ask Zara's dad. He has a bakery!

Dear Mr Bramley, Thanks for Bakery Friday! I think we should have a fruit day on Wednesdays. There isn't much fruit on the menu, and a lot of students want more, because it's healthy. Best wishes, Amara

  • because …
  • Best wishes,

  • “Your school wants ideas for the canteen. Write a message to your head teacher, Mr Ross.”
  • “Suggest one new food or drink.”
  • “Say why it is a good idea.”
  • “Say which day it could be on the menu.”
  • “Write 25 words or more.”

بعد “should” و“could” و“can” لا يأخذ الفعل “to” ولا “-s”.

  • للفكرة: “I think we should have a fruit day.”، “I think the canteen should sell soup.”
Could the canteen sell fresh bread?”
  • للسبب: “because it’s healthy”، “because students love it”

  • “I think the canteen should sell fruit salad.” –
  • “There isn’t any fruit on the menu now, and a lot of students want some because it’s healthy.” – النقطة 2: السبب، وفيه “any” و“a lot of” و“some”.
  • “Could we have it on Mondays?” –
  • “Best wishes, Deniz” –

الأسماء المعدودة لها جمع: “an egg”، “two eggs”. أما غير المعدودة فلا تأخذ “a/an” ولا “-s”: قل “some bread” لا “a bread” ولا “breads”. ولعدّها ضع قبلها كمية أو وعاء: رغيف الخبز هو “a loaf of bread”، وشريحة الخبز هي “a slice of bread”.

  • معدودة: “egg”، “sandwich”، “biscuit”، “apple”، “vegetable”، “snack”
  • غير معدودة: “bread”، “butter”، “cheese”، “milk”، “sugar”، “salt”، “water”، “juice”، “rice”، “pasta”، “fruit”
  • كميات وأوعية: “a piece of bread”، “a glass of milk”، “a bottle of water”، “a packet of crisps”، “a box of biscuits”
  • كلمة “fruit” غير معدودة في الغالب، مع أننا نقول «فواكه» بالجمع في العربية: قل “some fruit” و“a piece of fruit”.

some وany وmuch وmany وa lot of

كلمة «كثير» في العربية تقابل “much” و“many” و“a lot of” كلها؛ أما في الإنجليزية فتختار حسب الاسم ونوع الجملة.

  • “some” في الجمل المثبتة وعند العرض والطلب: “There are some eggs.” و“Can I have some milk?”
  • “any” في النفي والسؤال: “There isn’t any bread.” و“Are there any biscuits?”
  • “much” مع الاسم غير المعدود، وغالبًا في النفي والسؤال: “How much sugar?”
  • “many” مع الجمع: “How many eggs?” و“Not many students eat soup.”
  • “a lot of” مع النوعين، خاصة في الجمل المثبتة: قل “We eat a lot of bread.” لا “We eat much bread.”

Student So what do students buy now?

Canteen manager We sell a lot of biscuits, but most students buy crisps. There's some fruit too, but not many students choose it.

Student What would you like to sell?

Canteen manager Not soup. Students don't eat much soup. And we've got salad already. I'd really like to sell cheese sandwiches with fresh bread again.

وانتبه خاصة إلى “is” و“are”: الجملة الاسمية في العربية لا تحتاج إلى فعل في الزمن الحاضر، لذلك يسهل أن تكتب “because it healthy” بدلًا من “because it’s healthy”. ولا تترك السبب وحده في جملة مثل “Because it’s cheap.”

  • خطأ: “Can I have a bread?” والصواب: “Can I have some bread?”
  • خطأ: “There isn’t some fruit on the menu.” والصواب: “There isn’t any fruit on the menu.”
  • خطأ: “How many sugar do you want?” والصواب: “How much sugar do you want?”
  • خطأ: “I think we should to sell soup.” والصواب: “I think we should sell soup.”
  • خطأ: “because of it’s healthy” والصواب: “because it’s healthy”

  • “Your class is planning a healthy snack table. Write a note to your teacher, Ms Patel. Suggest one snack, say why and say one food the table shouldn’t have. Write 25 words or more.”

ما الفرق بين “some” و“any”؟

تأتي “some” في الجمل المثبتة وعند العرض والطلب، مثل “Can I have some milk?”، وتأتي “any” في النفي ومعظم الأسئلة، مثل “There isn’t any bread.”

لا، فهي غير معدودة: قل “some bread”، ولا تقل “a bread” ولا “breads”. ولعدّها قل “a piece of bread” أو “a slice of bread”.

متى أستخدم “much” ومتى “many”؟

تأتي “much” مع الأسماء غير المعدودة مثل “How much milk?”، و“many” مع الجمع مثل “How many eggs?”.
