Two friends plan an email at the club table with four sticky notes.

B1 Preliminary와 B1 Preliminary for Schools의 이메일 과제: 메모 네 개에 모두 답하기, 약 100단어 모범 답장, 친근한 말투, since와 for, 흔한 실수, 연습 루틴.

Narrator Last summer, The Loop won the Best Story award, and three schools abroad asked to work with them. Now it's time for the first call.

Ms Rivera Welcome back, everyone! This year we're making a documentary with our partners in Izmir, Busan and Curitiba.

Zara I've written a script for the call. Everyone reads their part, and we finish in ten minutes.

Deniz Merhaba from Izmir! I'm Deniz, and I'm… can you hear m—

Kai He's frozen again. This connection is terrible!

Hana Hello? Sorry, you're breaking up. Could you say that again?

Narrator Then Byline walks across Kai's keyboard, and the whole call goes silent.

Amara Let's forget the script. I've only been at Harbour Park for a year, so I want to hear about you. What are you all doing these days?

Lucas I'm working with my climate group at the moment. We're trying to make Curitiba even greener.

Deniz And I'm building a robot. I usually work on it every evening, but it isn't finished yet!

Amara's reply to Hana

Hi Hana, Thanks for your email! Yes, I loved the call too, especially when Deniz showed us his robot. I live in Kingsbay, a harbour city in the south of England. I've lived here since last year, so I'm still exploring it. In my opinion, the best thing is the harbour: you can watch the boats and eat chips by the sea. I'm thirteen and I play basketball. I'm quite curious, so I love asking people questions! Why don't we have the next call on Tuesday after school? Please reply and tell me if that works. Write soon, Amara

Amara's model has 99 words. Each paragraph answers one note. Write your own reply about you and your town.

  • Note 1: I loved it too, especially …
  • Note 2: I live in …
  • Note 3: I'm … and I …
  • Note 4: Why don't we …?

  • “Great to meet you all on the call! Did you enjoy it?” → “Yes! Say what you liked best”
  • “Tell me about your town.” → “Describe”
  • “What do you like doing in your free time?” → “Tell Alex”
  • “When shall we talk again?” → “Suggest”

I loved it too, especially …”
I live in …, a small / big … town / city.”
I’m … and I’ve … since / for …”
  • 메모 4(제안): “Why don’t we …?” 또는 “How about …?”

  • “Hi Alex, Thanks for your email!” → 인사
  • “I loved the call too, especially when your class showed us your school garden.” →
  • “I live in a small town by the sea. It’s quiet in winter, but in summer it’s full of tourists. I’ve lived here since I was five, and my favourite place is the beach.” →
  • “I’m fourteen and I’ve played the guitar for three years. I also love drawing comics, especially funny ones.” →
  • “Why don’t we have the next call on Friday after school? Let me know if that works for you and your class.” →
  • “Write soon,”

“Thanks for your email!”, “I loved it”, “I’m”, “don’t” 같은 줄임말도 좋아요. “Dear Sir”로 시작하거나 “I am writing to inform you”라고 쓰지 마세요.

“I’ve lived here since I was five.”, “I’ve played the guitar for three years.” 요즘 하고 있는 일은 현재진행형(“at the moment I’m …”), 습관은 현재형(“I usually …”)

1 I'm working with my climate group at the moment. We're trying to make Curitiba even greener.

학생 2 And I'm building a robot. I usually work on it every evening, but it isn't finished yet!

  • “I live here since five years.” → “I’ve lived here for five years.”
  • “Is very beautiful.” → “It’s very beautiful.”
  • “Why don’t we to meet on Friday?” → “Why don’t we meet on Friday?”
Yes!” → “Yes, I loved it, especially …”
  • 메모 베끼기: “I want to describe my town.”

더 구체적인 내용, “since”나 “for”가 들어간 문장, “so”나 “because” 같은 연결어 중 하나요.

  • “We’re making a video about weekends. What do you usually do on Saturdays?” → “Tell Sam”
  • “Where’s a good place to meet friends in your town?” → “Describe”
  • “Have you ever made a video?” → “Yes / No, explain”
  • “Could your class send us something?” → “Suggest”

B1 Preliminary for Schools

B1 Preliminary
