“which means”와 “so”로 연결하기
라는 뜻입니다”), “so”는 결과를, “so that”은 목적(“…
- “It updates job details automatically, which means engineers always have the latest information.” –
- “Customers get an instant report, so they don’t have to wait for an email.” –
Maya Let me explain the main features of the new maintenance app.
Owen Thanks. What’s the main benefit for our engineers?
Maya It updates job details automatically, which means engineers always have the latest information.
Owen That sounds useful. Is it easy to use?
Maya Yes. The simple menus let engineers close a job in under two minutes.
Owen And what’s the advantage for customers?
Maya They get an instant report, so they don’t have to wait for an email.
“user-friendly”만 말하지 말고 “engineers learned it in one morning”처럼 말합니다. 복합 형용사는 명사 앞에서 하이픈을 쓰고(“up-to-date records”), 동사 뒤에서는 보통 쓰지 않습니다(“The records are up to date.”).
“let” 뒤에는 “to” 없이 동사원형이 오고, “enable”과 “allow”는 “to”를 씁니다. 사람을 빼면 안 됩니다: “allows to close jobs”가 아니라 “allows engineers to close jobs”입니다.
- “The simple menus let engineers close a job in under two minutes.”
- “The portal enables customers to download their own reports.”
- “Automatic reminders help technicians (to) arrive on time.”
큰 차이는 “much”, “far”, “a lot”, 작은 차이는 “slightly”, “a bit”, 차이가 없으면 “equally”입니다. “훨씬 더 정확한”은 “much more accurate”입니다.
셀 수 있는 것에는 “fewer”(fewer errors), 양에는 “less”(less time)를 씁니다. 수치는 대략적으로 말하세요: “about two hundred”, “roughly a third”, “just under ten per cent”.
- “The secure portal is easier to use than email.”
- “This update is much more accurate.” –
- “The old process is slightly less efficient.” –
- “The two systems are equally reliable.” –
“provided that”이나 “as long as” 뒤에는 미래의 일이라도 현재형을 씁니다. “will show”가 아니라 “provided that the test shows fewer errors”입니다.
- Need: Sixty field engineers must close jobs quickly and securely. – 필요
- Recommended app: Option B. –
- Benefits: easier workflow, current data and faster job closure. – 이점
- Condition: improve offline protection. – 조건
- Before rollout: a two-week test of completion time, data errors and support calls. –
- “The app lets engineers to close jobs.”
- “The new app is more easier.”
- “It is very more accurate.” “much more accurate”
- “Provided that the test will be positive.” 현재형을 쓰세요: “provided that the test is positive”.
- 2분: 대화를 따라 말한 뒤 “What’s the advantage for customers?”
- 주 1회 토론 질문: “When a company replaces a person with an app, is faster always better?”(회사가 사람 대신 앱을 쓸 때, 더 빠르면 항상 더 좋을까요?)
