(A2 Key Part 6)

A tidy bedroom and an untidy bedroom side by side.

A2 KeyとA2 Key for SchoolsのPart 6で書く、泊まりに来る友だちへのメール:there isとthere are、oppositeやnext toなどの位置の表現、友だちが寝る場所、モデルメール、よくある間違い。

家の短い説明(“Our flat is small but comfortable.”)、友だちが寝る場所(“You can sleep in my room.”)、一緒にできること(“We can go swimming.”)。

  • “Your English friend Sam is coming to stay for the weekend. Write an email to Sam.”
  • “Describe your home.”
  • “Say where Sam will sleep.”
  • “Say what you can do together.”
  • “Write 25 words or more.”

ポイント1:there isとthere areで家を説明する

1つのものには“There’s”、2つ以上には“There are”を使います。

We live in a flat on the third floor.”
There’s a big kitchen.”
There are some shops near our building.”
There isn’t a lift.” / “There aren’t any shops in our street.”

“in”、“on”、“under”と一緒に、この5つを覚えよう。

  • “next to”:“The bathroom is next to your room.”
道の向かい側のことが多い):“There’s a park opposite our flat.”
  • “between”:“The sofa is between the window and the door.”
  • “behind”:“There’s a garden behind the house.”
  • “in front of”(前の、すぐ近く):“There’s a bus stop in front of our building.”

活動の多くは“go”+-ingの形です:go swimming、go shopping。

  • “You can sleep in my room. I can sleep on the sofa.”
  • “We can play basketball in the park opposite.”
  • “We can go swimming. There’s a pool next to my school.”

  • “Hi Sam, I’m so happy you’re coming!” →
  • “We live in a small flat with two bedrooms and a balcony.” →
  • “You can sleep in my room, and I can sleep on the sofa.”
  • “There’s a pool opposite our building, so we can go swimming.” →
  • “See you on Saturday! Deniz” →

“There are some”、“Is there a …? Yes, there is.”、“behind”、“next to”を聞き取ろう。

Zara Where's your desk, Theo? I can't see it.

Theo It's there, behind those plants. There are some papers on it.

Zara And is there a lamp?

Theo Yes, there is. It's on the floor, next to the bed.

  • “There is two bedrooms.” → “There are two bedrooms.”
  • “In my room is a desk.” → “There’s a desk in my room.”
  • “There aren’t some shops.” → “There aren’t any shops.”
  • “We have a lot of furnitures.” → “We have a lot of furniture.”
  • “You can sleep in the sofa.” → “You can sleep on the sofa.”

  • “Your English cousin is coming to stay for a week. Write an email. Say what your bedroom is like, where your cousin can put their clothes and what you can do in your town. Write 25 words or more.”

“there is”と“there are”はどう使い分ける?

“There is”は1つのものや数えられない名詞の前に使います(“There isn’t much furniture.”)。“there are”は2つ以上のものの前に使います(“There are two bedrooms.”)。

“opposite”と“in front of”の違いは?

“opposite of our flat”ではなく“opposite our flat”と言います。
