Two colleagues review the case documents at a desk.

自分で観察したこと(“From what I could see, …”)、人から聞いたこと(“According to …”)、自分で推論したこと(“I gathered from …”)

Analyse the case

Maya and Owen review the case documents at a desk.

A distributed procurement team misses two launch decisions after participants leave meetings with different interpretations of agreement. Researchers interview eighteen managers across six regions and observe four meetings. Three teams close decisions without checking silent participants; two rely on private follow-up; one records explicit consent from every function. The sample excludes night-shift staff and suppliers. The research group must report the pattern without turning it into a national stereotype, recommend a testable meeting change and explain how evidence will be broadened.

Study and adapt the decision brief

Maya and Owen review the case documents at a desk.

Subject: Research findings — decision clarity across regional teams

We examined how six regional procurement teams close decisions. We interviewed eighteen managers and observed four meetings. Three teams treated silence as consent, while local facilitators described silence as time to reflect or a preference for private follow-up. One team used an explicit contribution round and recorded agreement from every function; its action log contained fewer disputed decisions.

These findings indicate a process mismatch rather than a fixed national trait. The sample did not include night-shift staff or suppliers, and four observed meetings cannot establish that one method caused better outcomes.

We recommend testing an explicit consent check in two launch workshops next month. Maya will brief facilitators and record whether every function confirms, objects or requests more time. Owen will interview night-shift staff and supplier representatives before 30 June.

After the pilot, we will compare disputed decisions, follow-up corrections and participant feedback. Facilitators will log which response route participants use and whether later corrections change the agreed owner or deadline. Please send questions about the method to Maya by Friday.

Defend the recommendation

Maya and Owen discuss connections.

Maya The first workshop reduced disputed decisions, but one participant still used private follow-up.

Owen That does not mean the consent check failed; we need to ask whether the route was accessible.

Maya I’ll add that question to the interview.

Owen Then we can decide whether to keep spoken and private routes.

Draft and revise the decision brief

Maya and Owen discuss connections.

Maya Summarize the research without turning the pattern into a cultural trait.

Owen Three teams used silence as consent, but night-shift staff were excluded, so we recommend an explicit contribution round.

Maya What evidence comes next?

Owen Interviews with excluded staff and disputed-decision counts from two workshops.

Audit the final message

evidence

Every claim has an observable basis.

Name the sample, period or event.

boundary

Unknowns and excluded perspectives are visible.

State what the evidence cannot prove.

action

The request is proportionate to the evidence.

Use a pilot or gate when uncertainty matters.

ownership

Someone owns each next step and review.

Name the owner and deadline.

  • “From what I could see, every function had a chance to object.”:
  • “According to the local facilitator, silence allowed time to reflect.”:
  • “I gathered from the action logs that ownership was sometimes unclear.”:
  • “I have my doubts about generalizing from four meetings.”:4
  • “Two records were corrected afterwards, which makes me a bit wary.”:2
  • “I wouldn’t go so far as to say the pilot succeeded, but the first result is useful.”:

We interviewed eighteen managers across six regions and observed four meetings.”
The sample did not include night-shift staff or suppliers.”
These findings indicate a process mismatch rather than a fixed national trait.”

  • “We have interviewed eighteen managers; we have been interviewing night-shift staff this week.”:
  • “We should widen the sample; we should have included suppliers initially.”:
  • “The check could reduce disputes and should improve traceability.”:
  • “By June, we will have finished the interviews and will have been testing the check for eight weeks.”:

We recommend testing an explicit consent check in two launch workshops next month.”
After the pilot, we will compare disputed decisions, follow-up corrections and participant feedback.”

  • “According to me, …” 自分の意見は“In my view, …”か“I found it to be …”
  • “We have interviewed them last month.” 終わった時点を示す語があれば過去形です:“We interviewed them last month.”
  • “The evidences show …” “evidence”は不可算名詞です:“The evidence shows …”。
  • “There is no point to generalize.” 正しくは“There’s no point (in) generalizing.”

会議の後も書面でコメントできるよう、決定を開いたままにしておくべきでしょうか?“If we weigh up the pros and cons, …”

“according to me”は正しい英語ですか?

“According to”は他人の見解を紹介する表現です:“According to the local facilitator, …”。自分の意見は“In my view, …”

理由と一緒に述べます:“I have my doubts about generalizing from four meetings.” 言い過ぎの結論を退けるときは“I wouldn’t go so far as to say …, but …”
