Two friends take photographs at a coastal station with a lighthouse and cyclist visible.

指示(“Move before you zoom.”)、理由(“Digital zoom can reduce detail.”)、そして現実的な代案(“You might also take one close-up.”)

  • “Light”ではなく“Turn off the flash for distant views”。
  • “Focus”ではなく“Tap the face you want sharp”。
  • “Storage”ではなく“Keep every photo in two places”。

Move before you zoom.”
  • 理由は、原因なら“because”、結果なら“so”で:“Digital zoom can reduce detail, so walk nearer when it is safe.”
  • 代案は“might”“could”“one possibility is”で:“You might also take one wider landscape and one close-up; together they preserve both context and detail.”
  • “so”は“so that”の意味で目的を表すこともあります:“Switch off the flash and move nearer, so the wet ground keeps its colour.”

  • “Don’t”+動詞の原形:“Don’t use the flash for distant buildings; it only reaches nearby objects.”
  • “Avoid”+“-ing”:“Avoid holding the phone with one hand in low light.”
  • “Try”+“-ing”は「試しにやってみて効果を確かめる」という意味です:“Try tapping the face on the screen.” “Try to”+動詞は「努力する」という意味です:“Try to keep your elbows close to your body.”
  • 状況によってアドバイスが変わるなら、“If”の条件を先に:“If the sky looks white, reduce the brightness before you take the photo.”

あいまいなアドバイスは“The photo is bad.”

  • “out of focus”(ピンぼけ)と“in focus”(ピントが合っている):“The portrait was out of focus because the phone focused on the window.”
  • “overexposed”(露出オーバー、明るすぎる):“The sky is overexposed, so its colour and cloud detail have disappeared.”
  • “self-timer”(セルフタイマー):“They used the self-timer for a photograph of the whole group.”
  • “upload”(アップロードする):“Take the photo first, but ask permission before you upload it.”

“because”と“so”のあとの理由、“tap the cyclist to focus”に含まれる目的、そして“First”“Next”“Then”“Finally”がステップをどう並べているかに注目しましょう。

Owen First, clean the lens, because a fingerprint can soften the whole image. Next, switch off the flash and move nearer, so the wet ground keeps its colour. Then hold the phone with both hands and tap the cyclist to focus. Finally, take two versions and check them before you leave.

  • “Is it better to edit a photo or to take it again?”
  • “Should you ask permission before you upload a photo of someone?”
  • “Do phone cameras make people better photographers, or just faster ones?”

  • “Don’t to use the flash.” “Don’t”のあとは動詞の原形です:“Don’t use the flash.”
  • “Avoid to zoom.”
  • “Make a photo.” 英語では“take a photo”と言います。
理由を足しましょう:“Use the self-timer, so you can be in the group photo too.”

と“What if I can’t?”

読み手は“Clean the lens.” 会話では“You could…”や“It might help to…”

“try doing”と“try to do”の違いは何ですか?

“Try to keep the phone still”は「努力する」という意味です。
