Je voudrais is a conditional request frame. It is softer than Je veux in a service encounter and lets you attach the item directly: Je voudrais un café.

Use Je voudrais before a noun or infinitive to make a courteous request; it is not a literal statement about a distant wish here.
Vous pouvez répéter, s’il vous plaît ?: Could you repeat, please?
This vous-form request asks someone to repeat. Add plus lentement only if speed, rather than volume, caused the problem.
Comment dit-on … en français ?: How do you say … in French?
Use this frame when the missing item is the word itself. Put the English word or a simple description in the gap, then repeat the French answer.
