The HOST ended the dinner, not the guest.”
They ASKED how to address me; they didn’t insist on titles.”
The workshop was in ZURICH, not in Helsinki.”
ONE colleague preferred live questions, not the whole team.”
The rules organized NOISE, not personal warmth.”
That was true of THAT team, not of Finnish offices in general.”
主張を限定する表現に注目しましょう:“in that team”、“one colleague personally”。
誰かが“So Finns dislike interruptions?”と結論づけたら、観察を否定せず、主張を絞り込みます:“Just ONE colleague preferred live questions, while that particular team used delayed written comments; the account cannot establish a Finnish norm.”
Maya At a design office in Helsinki, nobody interrupted my presentation. I initially thought the proposal had failed to engage them.
Owen Detailed written comments arrived that afternoon. In that team, silence created time for analysis, although one colleague personally preferred live questions.
I was under the impression that…” “What threw me was…”
- 最初の反応:“I was disconcerted by the silence and assumed the proposal had failed.”
Nobody interrupted, and detailed written comments arrived that afternoon.”
This may indicate that the team wanted time to analyse before responding.”
In one design team in Helsinki, after a single presentation…”
However, one colleague preferred live questions.” “The account concerns one team and cannot establish a Finnish norm.”
- “a Finnish designer”, “a Finn”, “the Finns”、“a Spaniard”または“a Spanish person”。
- “Swiss”、“Thai”、“-ese”で終わる語は、形容詞を使うか“person”を付けます:“She is Japanese”、“a Swiss person”。
ではなく“The Swiss are…”。
- 行動したのが機関なら、機関名を挙げます:“The Norwegians approved the vaccine”ではなく“Norway’s medicines agency approved the vaccine”。
- “whereas”+節:“Whereas the silence in Helsinki gave one team time to analyse, the written rules in Zurich organized noise by activity.”
How do teams that rely on written comments make room for colleagues who prefer live questions?”
Maya A Lebanese colleague entered a Zurich workshop whose written rules looked severe. The induction revealed two conversation zones; the rules organized noise by activity rather than demanding silence.
Owen These stories can generate research questions, but they cannot represent Finnish, Thai, Norwegian, Swiss, Argentine, or Lebanese populations.
So Finns dislike interruptions?”
- “The Swiss are…”、“a Spaniard”または“a Spanish person”、“She is Japanese”の代わりに、“The Swiss is…”、“a Spanish”、“a Japanese”と言うこと。
- “So that’s how Thai people are.”
- 4分:声に出して答えましょう:“Should employers train staff in cultural differences, or does that kind of training create new stereotypes?” “I’d go along with that up to a point…”
