Yes or No?: An English Question Game for Kids
Something is circled in the picture and the teacher asks: "Is it a dog?" Your child answers "Yes, it is!" or "No, it isn't!" Yes or No? is short and fun, and it teaches the first real conversation pattern in English: a question and a short answer.

How to play
- 1
A thing is circled in the scene of the unit.
- 2
The teacher asks a yes/no question about it: "Is it a dog?", "Is it red?", "Are you jumping?"
- 3
Your child answers with a short answer: "Yes, it is." or "No, it isn't."
- 4
If the answer is no, your child says what it really is: "It's a cat!"
- 5
Then your child asks the teacher a question, and the roles swap.
A sample round
This is how a round sounds in a live lesson.
TeacherLook! Is it a dog?
ChildNo, it isn't. It's a cat!
TeacherIs the cat black?
ChildYes, it is!
What your child learns
- Understands yes/no questions: Is it…? Are you…? Can you…?
- Answers with short answers instead of a single word.
- Listens for detail: colour, size, number or action.
- Asks simple questions too, the first step to a real conversation.
Best age
Yes or No? suits children from 4 to about 9. Preschoolers answer about colours and things; from Level 1 the questions are about actions, feelings and places.
Play it at home
No screen needed: a few toys or a picture book are enough.
- On a walk or in the car, play "Is it red?" with the things you see.
- Hide a toy behind your back and let your child guess with yes/no questions.
- Say a silly question now and then ("Is the cat blue?") to keep it fun.
Questions parents ask
Why short answers and not just "yes"?
"Yes, it is" and "No, it isn't" are the patterns children need in every conversation. Saying them in a game makes them automatic.
Isn't this too easy?
It starts easy on purpose, so every child succeeds. The questions get longer and more detailed as your child moves up the levels.
Play it in a live lesson
This game is part of every Flalingo kids game lesson. Your child plays it with a teacher on the same screen, using the words of their own unit.
