Best Online English Courses for Kids in Turkey (2026): 6 Platforms Compared
Bright Birio 09.10.2026
Last updated: October 2026
In Turkey's state schools, English starts in 2nd grade and stays at two lessons a week throughout primary school. In a crowded classroom, each child gets barely a few minutes of speaking time out of those two lessons. That is the picture parents describe when they look for the best online English courses for kids in Turkey. Their child knows colours, numbers and a few songs, but freezes when asked a simple question in English (our article on children who understand English but won't speak it looks at why). Then, at the end of 8th grade, comes the LGS, the national high school entrance exam. Its 10 foreign-language questions in the verbal session measure reading comprehension.
Starting early isn't enough on its own. The Barcelona Age Factor (BAF) Project (Muñoz, 2006) compared about 1,900 students who learned English at school but started at different ages. They were assessed after 200, 416 and 726 hours of instruction. Given the same amount of teaching, the students who started later made faster progress on many language measures in the early stages. The findings show that in foreign language learning, the starting age matters, and so does the amount of English teaching and exposure a child gets.
We assessed six platforms against criteria built for children, plus support for the school curriculum and communication with parents in Turkish. For each one we went through its pages on Şikayetvar (Turkey's best-known consumer complaints site) and Trustpilot, its refund and auto-renewal terms, and the steps it takes to keep children safe. We also looked at whether its gamification serves learning or simply keeps children on the screen.
!
Short Answer
Our overall pick for kids in Turkey is Flalingo Kids: a regular teacher, gamified practice, a FLAI parent report, an unconditional 30-day refund and no auto-renewal. Novakid stands out for a play-based programme, Cambly Kids for native-speaker teachers, Preply for choosing your own teacher and 51Talk for a low price per lesson. For group lessons at a provider licensed by Turkey's Ministry of National Education (MEB), there is Elmadil.
How Did We Evaluate Online English Courses for Kids in Turkey?
1. Teachers experienced with children
Have the teachers been trained in child pedagogy, and does hiring include competence and safety checks?
2. Age-appropriate curriculum
Are lesson length and content split according to the attention spans of 4-6, 7-9 and 10-12-year-olds?
3. A regular teacher
Does the child work with the same teacher every week?
4. Parent visibility
Can parents see what their child is learning without sitting in on lessons?
5. Motivation design
Does the gamification reward learning, or time spent on screen?
6. Safety and practical factors
Are lesson recording, teacher oversight, refund and auto-renewal terms clearly set out?
7. Support for the school curriculum (MEB) and parent communication (specific to Turkey)
Can the platform work in step with school topics, and does it communicate with parents in Turkish and over WhatsApp?
Gamification at a Young Age: What Exactly Is Being Rewarded?
Sitting in front of a screen for 25 minutes isn't easy for a child aged 4-9. That's why almost every platform leans on badges, stars, diamonds or avatars. A 2020 meta-analysis by Sailer and Homner found that gamification had a moderate positive effect on cognitive learning outcomes (g = 0.49) and a smaller one on motivation (g = 0.36). Designs that used a storyline and combined competition with collaboration worked better, especially for behavioural outcomes.
The detail to watch as a parent is what your child earns points for. A reward for a correctly matched word, a finished sentence or a corrected mistake feeds learning. A reward for opening the app or watching an animation feeds screen time. That's how we judged gamification in the platform sections.
💡 After the trial lesson, ask your child "Which word did you earn points for?" instead of "What did you learn today?" If the answer is a word or a sentence, the gamification is tied to learning.
How did we evaluate? In October 2026 we checked prices, refund and renewal terms on the platforms' official pages, and Şikayetvar and Trustpilot data on the brands' own pages. We used the prices shown when browsing from Turkey, and for dollar-based prices we used the October 2026 exchange rate (1 USD ≈ 49 TL).
Disclosure: Flalingo is the publisher of this article and is included in the list. We ranked the platforms against the seven criteria above. We applied the same criteria to every platform so that our assessments are as objective and comparable as possible.

#1 - Flalingo Kids: A Regular Teacher, Gamification and a Parent Report in One Place
Flalingo Kids gives one-to-one live lessons to children from age 3 to 13. Parents can choose between teachers who are native English speakers and teachers who speak Turkish. The platform accepts only one in every 73 teachers who apply, and it tags teachers by area of expertise, child pedagogy being one of them.
Two things put Flalingo at the top of the list. The first is continuity. Smart Matching pairs each child with a teacher using 18 data points, and the chance of carrying on with the same teacher is over 90%. For a shy child, seeing the same face every week makes it easier to start talking. The second is the game loop built around each lesson, followed by the FLAI report that goes to the parent. For a child who loves learning in a group, though, the one-to-one format may feel too intense.
Standout Feature: A Lesson Loop That Starts with Games and Ends with a Report
Your child warms up for the lesson with 8 words and 5 short exercises, then plays games such as "Feed the Monster Right" in the waiting room until the teacher arrives. After the lesson, they review the same words with Sentence Builder, Listen & Choose and Quick Quiz. Diamonds are earned through these tasks and quizzes, so the reward is tied directly to a learning task. At the end of the loop, a FLAI report goes to the parent.
You can see the lesson flow and a sample parent report step by step on the Flalingo Kids demo page.
Key Features
25-minute one-to-one live lessons for the 3-5, 6-8, 9-12 and 13+ age groups
A choice of teachers who are native English speakers or speak Turkish, tagged for child pedagogy
Support for school English lessons and school exams (written exams, LGS preparation)
FLAI parent report and personal exercises generated from mistakes made in the lesson
Gamification with diamonds earned through games before and after the lesson
Flalingo Stories: 165 interactive stories grouped by Cambridge Young Learners English (YLE) level (ages 4-12)
Flalingo Games: vocabulary and spelling games such as Balloon Pop and Monster Kitchen
A free level test for ages 4-12, with visual tasks for ages 4-6
TOEFL, IELTS and YDS (Turkey's state foreign language exam) practice exams for teenagers of high school age
Unlimited access to lesson recordings, instant messaging with the teacher and 24/7 support in Turkish
Pros
✓Selection that accepts 1 in 73 applicants, and teachers tagged for child pedagogy
✓Over 90% chance of continuing with the same teacher, with a choice of native or Turkish-speaking teachers
✓FLAI parent report that shows progress without sitting in on lessons
✓Gamification that ties rewards to exercises and quiz tasks
✓English that carries on beyond the lesson, with stories, games, books and school exam support
✓Free trial lesson with no card details required, and a free level test
✓Lessons analysed by FLAI for child safety, and unlimited access to lesson recordings
✓Unconditional 30-day refund, no auto-renewal, 20% off for a second child
Cons
✕FLAI report and personal exercises only in the 6- and 12-month packages
✕The mobile app is behind the web experience, and development is ongoing
✕Live lessons need a stable internet connection and a device with adequate specs
Price
Flalingo Kids packages are built around one 25-minute lesson a week. The 6-month Little Explorer package has 24 lessons, with a list price of 19,122 TL that comes down to 11,450 TL with a 40% discount (480 TL per lesson). The 12-month Master Explorer package has 48 lessons, with a list price of 38,244 TL that comes down to 15,300 TL with a 60% discount (320 TL per lesson). That works out at roughly 1,275-1,910 TL a month. Packages don't renew automatically, and you get an unconditional full refund within the first 30 days. A 20% sibling discount applies to a second child.
Prices last checked: October 2026.
Who Is It Best For?
Children aged 3-12 starting English from scratch or at Pre-A1/A1 level
Shy children who open up when they work with the same teacher
Children who need support with their English progress and school exams
Working parents who can't sit in on lessons but want to follow progress through a report
Families who can set aside 1,275-1,910 TL a month for a 6- or 12-month package
What Do Users Say?
Flalingo's satisfaction score on Şikayetvar is 97/100 (34 ratings). There are 127 complaints, and 17% of those received in the past year have been answered. Recent complaints are mostly about cancelling subscriptions, refunds and the payment currency. The Google rating shown on the website is 4.9 (710 reviews). One criticism in the second review is worth noting: the platform only teaches English.

We decided to enrol our 9-year-old son after the trial lesson. The variety of teachers and their professionalism are top level. The programme they use is practical and full of perks. The two parts I like most: first, our education consultant, Mr Deniz, is always reachable and focused on solving problems. Second, they use AI support, analyse every lesson in detail and create homework and quizzes for the student based on that. There's also an algorithm that builds the teacher pool according to the student's level. Even though he had already taken courses for 2 years, we saw the benefit of online learning in just 2 months.
My daughter has been taking lessons at Flalingo for close to 14 months. She started without knowing a single word and has now learned at least 1,000 words. She can't fully speak yet, but she understands most of the sentences she hears, and we're very happy. We started with Ms Berrin in particular. Even though we had chosen a Turkish teacher, her accent and the way she spoke were wonderful, and her calm, patient teaching and command of the subject amazed us. My child always loved the lessons and was eager to learn every single time. Turkish was never spoken, which is what I liked most. Whatever happened, the teacher answered in English. On payments and customer communication too, it's a platform where I got an answer to every question. I'll admit I hesitated a lot at first, because it's a company based abroad, both about paying and about how the process would go, but I had no problems at all. You can buy with confidence. Your child can get language lessons very economically, without you having to take them to and from a course. In my view, its biggest shortcoming is that it only offers this kind of teaching for English. I now want my child to start a second language too, and I had to look for a completely different platform for German. I wish they had German as well.
Novakid is a platform that gives children aged 4-15 one-to-one 25-minute lessons and is active in Turkey with a Turkish-language website. Its CEFR-based programme is split into six age groups. The platform says its teachers have at least 3 years of experience with children and that it accepts one in every 11 candidates.
Gamification is Novakid's most visible side, but a large share of the complaints on Şikayetvar are about cancelling subscriptions and auto-renewal. It's worth reading those terms before you sign up.
Standout Feature: A Video and Teacher Comments After Every Lesson
After every lesson, the parent receives a video recording of the lesson and the teacher's comments. A parent who can't sit in can see for themselves how their child speaks and where they get stuck. The recording is also a safety layer: under Novakid's terms of use, lessons are also recorded for quality control and to review any complaints.
Key Features
One-to-one 25-minute lessons for ages 4-15, plus 45-minute group speaking sessions
Standard (non-native) and Premium (native English-speaking) teacher options
Gamification with avatars, stars and certificates, an AI teacher and game-based homework
A video recording and teacher comments after every lesson, and parental consent for under-16s
Free trial lesson with no card details required, free games and learning materials
Pros
✓A play-based programme designed for younger children
✓A lesson video and teacher comments after every lesson
✓Two teacher tiers to suit your budget
✓Free trial lesson and a 14-day money-back period for an unused subscription
Cons
✕The subscription renews automatically until cancelled, and most of the 651 complaints on Şikayetvar are about this
✕Under the terms of use, unused lessons expire after 90 days
✕Recent complaints mention teacher changes and deleted lessons
✕Choosing a native teacher pushes the lesson price up noticeably
Price
On Novakid's pricing page, packages start from 4,700 TL a month. Premium (native) lessons cost more than Standard ones, and there's a 10% discount when you enrol two children. Under the terms of use, the subscription renews until it's cancelled, and you need to cancel at least one working day before the renewal date. If the subscription hasn't been used at all, you can ask for a refund within 14 days.
Prices last checked: October 2026.
Who Is It Best For?
Children aged 4-9 who learn through play and find it hard to concentrate for long
Parents who want to follow progress by watching lesson recordings
Families who can set aside 4,700 TL or more a month and keep a close eye on subscription dates
What Do Users Say?
Novakid's Turkey page on Trustpilot has 1,591 reviews, a TrustScore of 4.5/5 and replies to 83% of negative reviews. On Şikayetvar its satisfaction score is 85/100 (170 ratings), with an 89% response rate over the past year. The second review shows that one-to-one lessons on a screen may not suit every child of preschool age.

Our time with Novakid
My daughter has been learning English with the Novakid app for more than 2 years. With her style and skills, plus easy access to lessons and easy time changes, our teacher Jasmine is a real guide to learning English. We're very happy 🙏
Novakid experience
My son previously spent 2 years learning English at various education centres. But as parents we failed to keep track of his progress, so we don't think he reached the level he should have. We think we can follow him better with Novakid. The one-to-one lessons are a lot of fun. My son, who didn't want to go to a course, now joins the lessons eagerly. I think he learns without getting bored because the lessons aren't long and the teachers are cheerful. Of course, this is my impression after 3 lessons. I hope it carries on like this. I have another son who is still preschool age. It's hard to say the same for him. Because he's little, he struggled to adapt. We think it would be better to try again later on.
#3 - Cambly Kids: 30-Minute Lessons with Native English-Speaking Teachers
Cambly is a platform founded in the US in 2012, known among adults for native-speaker conversation with no booking needed. Cambly Kids is the version of the same platform for ages 4-15: one-to-one 30-minute lessons, all with native English-speaking teachers, and courses ordered by CEFR level. The beginner courses (A1-A2) are designed for ages 4-8, and the advanced courses go up to C1.
On the safety side, lessons are recorded on video, and according to the Cambly Kids privacy policy, parents can watch their child's lesson videos. Its weak spot is progress visibility, since its pages say nothing about a regular parent report.
Standout Feature: A Native English-Speaking Teacher in Every Lesson
For hearing different accents and getting used to natural speaking speed, Cambly Kids is the most direct option on the list. Because favourite teachers can be saved and booked again, families can build continuity themselves. The 30-minute lesson also leaves a little more room for speaking than 25-minute lessons do.
Key Features
One-to-one 30-minute lessons for ages 4-15, 1-3 lessons a week
A1-C1 courses ordered by CEFR level
1-, 3- and 12-month plans
Free games, tests and workbooks, KidSafe certification
Lesson videos that parents can access
A 30-minute trial lesson for 39 TL (once per family)
Pros
✓A native English-speaking teacher in every lesson
✓Separate beginner courses for ages 4-8
✓Parents can watch lesson videos
✓Every complaint on Şikayetvar in the past year has been answered
Cons
✕No information on a regular parent report
✕On the monthly plan, the price per lesson reaches 1,340 TL
✕Plans renew automatically, and parents need to switch renewal off in the account
✕Most recent complaints on Şikayetvar are about card charges people didn't recognise
Price
On the Cambly Kids pricing page as viewed from Turkey, a plan with 2 lessons a week (30 minutes each) costs 1,340.63 TL per lesson on the 1-month plan, 1,113.75 TL on the 3-month plan (a 10% saving) and 680.63 TL on the 12-month plan (a 45% saving). Based on 8 lessons a month, that's roughly 5,445-10,725 TL a month. The 30-minute trial lesson costs 39 TL. Plans renew automatically at the end of each term, but you can switch renewal off in your account whenever you like. Under Cambly's general refund policy, you can ask for a full refund within 7 days of the start of your first plan.
Prices last checked: October 2026.
Who Is It Best For?
Children aged 8-15 with solid foundations who need speaking practice
Families who want to improve accent and listening with a native-speaker teacher
Parents who can set aside 680 TL or more per lesson and commit to a 12-month plan
What Do Users Say?
Cambly's Trustpilot rating is 2.0/5 from 264 reviews. We didn't find any reviews about children's lessons on Trustpilot, so the reviews below come from adult users. On Şikayetvar its satisfaction score is 79/100 (126 ratings). For Cambly Kids specifically, the most common topic is payment for the paid trial lesson.

The platform is easy to use
The platform is easy to use, and talking with tutors feels natural and comfortable.
Instructors are not professional
It is difficult to find a suitable instructor and the instructors are definitely not professional. Some of them do not pay attention to the hours, they come to the lessons late and there is no make-up. My money was wasted, I regret signing up to Cambly, I wish I hadn't bought it.
Preply is a teacher marketplace rather than a course programme. It has more than 45,000 English teachers, but no separate curriculum for children. Parents choose the teacher themselves, based on price, expertise, the languages they speak and their reviews. It's possible to find a teacher who is experienced with children, speaks Turkish and knows the school topics well.
But quality depends entirely on the teacher you pick. Under Preply's privacy policy, users under 18 must use the platform under parental supervision, and for ages 13-17 a parent must open the account. Lessons can only be recorded with prior notice. That's why it's a good idea for a parent to sit with the child in the first few lessons.
Standout Feature: AI-Powered Lesson Summaries with Lesson Insights
Lesson Insights is Preply's post-lesson progress report. The lesson audio is transcribed, and AI uses the transcript to produce feedback on vocabulary, grammar and speaking, along with suggested exercises. The summary appears in the classroom 5 minutes before the lesson ends, and then on the student's page. For now the feature only works in English lessons, and if the teacher doesn't switch it on, you can't access the report. When you choose a teacher, ask whether they use Lesson Insights.
Key Features
More than 45,000 English teachers, with filters for price, language and expertise
Option to choose a Turkish-speaking teacher
Lesson Insights: AI lesson summaries and suggested exercises
A free trial with another teacher if the first one isn't a good fit
A subscription that renews every 28 days, with a pause of up to 20 days per cycle
Pros
✓A very large teacher pool to suit any budget
✓Option to choose a Turkish teacher or one who knows school topics well
✓AI lesson summaries with Lesson Insights
✓4.4/5 on Trustpilot from 25,462 reviews
Cons
✕No curriculum, gamification or parent dashboard designed for children
✕Quality and safety depend largely on the teacher and on the parent keeping watch
✕The subscription renews automatically, and unscheduled lessons expire
✕Şikayetvar score of 33/100
Price
On Preply, the teacher sets the price. On Preply's English tutors page, lesson prices range from 100 TL to 2,000 TL. For a 50-minute lesson, the average price is higher with native English-speaking teachers. The subscription renews automatically every 28 days, and unscheduled lessons expire. A refund is only possible if no lessons were used in that cycle and you request it separately within 28 days of payment.
Prices last checked: October 2026.
Who Is It Best For?
Children over 10 with a specific need, such as a school subject, the LGS or explanations in Turkish
Parents with time to compare teacher profiles and watch the first lessons
Families looking for a teacher across a wide price range to suit their budget
What Do Users Say?
Preply is rated 4.4/5 on Trustpilot from 25,462 reviews. On Şikayetvar, however, its satisfaction score is 33/100 (15 ratings), and the 136 complaints share a common thread: not being able to reach the support team, delayed refunds and closed accounts. The reviews below are from parents. The first one is candid about the fact that online lessons may not suit every child.

The platform is very userfriendly
The platform is very user-friendly, both for scheduling lessons and joining them. We found an excellent teacher for our son, and he studied with him for about a month. However, we both eventually realized that online learning was difficult for the child, and the teacher himself suggested not continuing. His honesty really touched me! There were no issues contacting support either, and my request for a refund was handled quickly.
Laura has been absolutely wonderful…
Laura has been absolutely wonderful with my children, Mila and Jonathon. From the very beginning, she has been patient, kind, engaging, and truly invested in their learning and success. She creates a positive and encouraging environment that makes them feel comfortable and excited to learn. What stands out most is her ability to connect with each child individually and adapt her teaching style to meet their needs. Mila and Jonathon have both gained confidence and made noticeable progress thanks to Laura’s dedication and support. As a parent, I appreciate her excellent communication, professionalism, and genuine care for my children’s growth. We are incredibly grateful to have found such an outstanding tutor and highly recommend Laura to any family looking for a caring and effective teacher.
#5 - 51Talk: Low Per-Lesson Prices and Cambridge YLE Alignment
51Talk is an international platform that gives children one-to-one 25-minute online English lessons, and in Turkey it works with Turkish-speaking education consultants. Its programmes are split into three age bands: 3-6, 7-12 and 13-18. The platform says it accepts 3% of teacher applicants and that its teachers hold international certifications. Parents can filter teachers by teaching style and experience.
Price is where it stands out. But the website doesn't publish any policy on refunds, auto-renewal or lesson recording, and recent Şikayetvar records keep mentioning consultants who can't be reached, lessons deleted after a pause and charges taken after cancellation.
Standout Feature: A Learn, Practise, Test Loop Aligned with Cambridge YLE
51Talk says it built its curriculum within the CEFR framework and in line with the Cambridge YLE exams (Starters, Movers, Flyers). The lesson flow has four steps: Learn, Practise, Test and Get Support. This structure ties progress to a goal that can be measured from outside.
Key Features
One-to-one 25-minute lessons for ages 3-18
Curriculum aligned with CEFR and Cambridge YLE
Internationally certified teachers selected with a 3% acceptance rate, with filters for style and experience
Small international group lessons
Turkish-speaking education consultant
Free 25-minute trial lesson with no card details required
Pros
✓One of the lowest starting prices for one-to-one lessons
✓Curriculum aligned with the Cambridge YLE exams
✓Free trial lesson with no card details required
✓92% response rate on Şikayetvar over the past year
Cons
✕The website doesn't say which countries the teachers come from
✕Refund, auto-renewal and lesson recording policies aren't published on the website
✕No information on a parent report or progress dashboard
✕Recent complaints highlight unreachable consultants and deleted lessons
Price
On 51Talk's Turkey pricing page, one-to-one lessons with international teachers start from 369 TL per 25-minute lesson, and small international group lessons from 2,239 TL. For group lessons, the page shows a campaign with 4 free lessons over one month, with limited places. The 25-minute trial lesson is free and doesn't ask for card details. We recommend asking the consultant for the refund and renewal terms in writing before you buy.
Prices last checked: October 2026.
Who Is It Best For?
Children aged 5-12 who can focus in short lessons and progress through frequent repetition
Families aiming for the Cambridge YLE exams (Starters, Movers, Flyers)
Parents with a budget that starts at around 370 TL per one-to-one lesson
What Do Users Say?
51Talk's satisfaction score on Şikayetvar is 77/100 (39 ratings), and 23 of its 59 complaints have been resolved. The 51talk.com page on Trustpilot has only 9 reviews and a score of 2.3/5. Many of those reviews are about teachers' working conditions, so they say little about the children's programme in Turkey. The two reviews below are from Google.

A platform our whole family is very happy with. The education coach takes a close, one-to-one interest, lets us cancel a lesson up to an hour before it starts, and credited lessons back to us after problems caused by technical glitches. All of this showed us first-hand how well run and goal-focused this platform is. 🙏 So glad we found 51 Talk and its family …
Learning English with 51Talk has been really enjoyable for my son. The teachers are patient and energetic, and because the lessons are fully focused on speaking, progress is very fast. The platform is easy to use, and the lesson times are flexible, so they fit easily into my schedule. I'd wholeheartedly recommend it to anyone who wants to gain confidence speaking English.
#6 - Elmadil: MEB-Licensed Online Lessons in Small Groups
Elmadil is an online English course founded in Ankara in 2020 that received MEB approval in January 2021. It gives children aged 7-16 live lessons in small groups, and it's the only provider on the list that operates with an MEB licence. Its teachers are graduates of English language teaching or English language and literature, and the lessons use Total Physical Response (TPR) and the Natural Approach.
What sets it apart from the one-to-one platforms is the classroom setting. Some children who stay quiet in one-to-one lessons speak more comfortably with their peers. The trade-off is that each child gets less speaking time. The website has no information on whether lessons are recorded, so it's worth asking before you enrol.
Standout Feature: Daily Home Activities and Parent Updates by SMS
A reading and listening list goes out every weekday, and at beginner levels there are activities 5 days a week with feedback by SMS. Parents attend regular parent meetings and can reach teachers by WhatsApp and email. On parent communication in Turkish, our Turkey-specific criterion, this is one of the strongest models on the list.

Price
Elmadil publishes its prices openly: 5,500 TL a month for levels Pre-A1.1 to A2.1 and 6,000 TL for levels A2.2 to B2 (VAT included). With 12 lessons a month, that's roughly 460-500 TL per 45-minute lesson. Payment is made by bank transfer in the first 5 days of each month, so there's no automatic charge. Parents only pay for the period their child attends, and there's no leaving fee.

What Do Users Say?
We couldn't find a brand page for Elmadil on Şikayetvar, and the provider has no page on Trustpilot either. The two reviews below are from Google. The parent who wrote the first one says their son has been studying there for a year and that lessons blended with play have boosted his confidence.

My son has been studying at Elmadil for a year, and since he started, both his confidence and his curiosity have grown a lot. While building a solid foundation in academic subjects, he has also got better at communicating with his friends. The teachers' warmth and the individual attention they give the children are very reassuring. Because learning is blended with play, school has become more than a place to learn for him. It's an enjoyable experience. We're so glad we chose Elmadil. Many thanks to our teacher, Semih.
Elmadil's online English course for children is really successful. The group lessons are interactive, and the teachers pay close attention to the students. Our child's English speaking skills improved in a short time. We definitely recommend it!
Put the six platforms side by side and no single "best" comes out for every child. The question to ask is which combination of features fits your child's age and temperament, and your family's budget:
For a regular teacher, gamified practice and a regular parent report: Flalingo Kids
For a 4-9-year-old who learns through play, plus lesson recordings: Novakid
For speaking practice with a native teacher once the basics are in place: Cambly Kids
For a specific teacher who speaks Turkish or knows the school topics well: Preply
For a low price per lesson and a Cambridge YLE goal: 51Talk
For group lessons with peers at an MEB-licensed provider: Elmadil
Our extra advice for families in Turkey is to get four things in writing before the first payment: the refund terms, whether the package renews automatically, whether lessons are recorded and whether your child will work with the same teacher every week. Then look at the brand's complaints and replies on Şikayetvar over the past six months, as the scores in this article date from October 2026.
Our own preference is at least two short lessons a week with the same teacher at a young age, plus games between lessons that reward the right answer. That steady contact is also what closes the gap between two hours of English at school and the LGS. For a wider look at the best online English courses in Turkey, see our guide on the subject.

1. At what age should a child start online English?
There's no fixed age. Most platforms teach children from the age of 3-4, but at that age lessons should be short, play-based and done with a parent present. The American Academy of Pediatrics' 2016 policy statement recommends limiting screen time for ages 2-5 to about one hour a day, with a parent watching alongside. What matters more than the starting age is how much English the child hears and uses. For more on why the early years count, see our article on the benefits of learning English at an early age.
2. A foreign teacher or a Turkish teacher (by age)?
At a young age, listening and pronunciation come first, so it's best to choose a teacher who is a native English speaker or speaks at native level and has been trained in child pedagogy. From the age of 10, once school topics and the LGS come into play, a teacher who can explain grammar by comparing it with Turkish can be an advantage. Flalingo Kids offers native English-speaking and Turkish-speaking teachers side by side, and Preply has both too. Cambly Kids works only with native English-speaking teachers.
3. How do you combine it with English lessons at school?
The most effective approach is to use online lessons for the speaking practice that school leaves out. Primary school English is two lessons a week, so 2-3 short one-to-one lessons a week complete the school programme without overloading it. If you share the unit title from the school coursebook (e.g. "My Family") and upcoming written exam topics with the teacher, the words get repeated in both settings. From 5th grade, keep the LGS's 10 English questions in mind and make room for short reading texts.
4. How much does it cost per month (₺)?
As of October 2026, one-to-one online English lessons cost roughly 320-1,340 TL per lesson on fixed-price platforms. At one lesson a week, Flalingo Kids' 12-month package comes to ≈1,275 TL a month (320 TL per lesson). On Cambly Kids a plan with 2 lessons a week costs ≈5,445-10,725 TL a month, Novakid packages start from 4,700 TL a month and 51Talk one-to-one lessons start from 369 TL per lesson. Elmadil's group lessons cost 5,500-6,000 TL a month. On Preply the teacher sets the price. When you compare, look at the cost per lesson, the lesson length and auto-renewal.
5. How long should lessons be, and how often?
For ages 4-12, 25-30-minute lessons are the standard on most platforms and a sensible upper limit for younger children. At ages 4-9, 2-3 short lessons a week, with songs or stories in between, make a good start. At 10-12, if the child can concentrate, you can go up to 3-5 lessons a week. Frequent, short lessons make it easier for children to go over words before they forget them. We've gathered ideas for what you can do at home between lessons in our tips for families.
6. How are child safety and lesson recording handled?
Look at three things: how teachers are selected, whether lessons are recorded and made available to parents, and whether communication stays inside the platform. On Flalingo, FLAI analyses lessons for child safety and alerts the quality team when it spots a risk, and parents have unlimited access to lesson recordings. Novakid sends parents a video of every lesson, and on Cambly Kids parents can watch lesson videos. On Preply, a parent opens the account for ages 13-17, and oversight rests largely with the parent. Whatever the platform, have lessons take place in a shared space at home, and don't communicate with the teacher outside the platform.
