Italian pronunciation test for a university introduction in Milan

For an English-speaking adult student in Milan, practise a short Italian seminar introduction and a follow-up question. Flalingo’s Italian pronunciation test gives word feedback for a chosen term. Return immediately to the complete introduction so practice serves the academic conversation.

Introduce one topic and one purpose

Imagine opening a seminar contribution about a material used in a design project. State the subject, your question and why it matters to the discussion. Keep the first version to three sentences with vocabulary you understand. A long list of academic terms makes it harder to identify why the introduction loses clarity. Ask a partner to name your topic before concentrating on a sound that merely feels unfamiliar.

Check how you read the Italian term

If you rely on English spelling when reading an Italian project term, listen to a spoken model and compare your own recording. Some learners may need help with a particular sound or word length, but first establish whether that difference affects your chosen term. The Italian test supplies word-level feedback. It does not diagnose every segment or determine whether your academic explanation is accurate.

Keep the purpose audible

Underline the phrase that tells listeners what you want to discuss. Record once with a pause before it and once without, then ask which version makes the purpose clearer. Do not give every word equal emphasis. The seminar group should be able to identify the question rather than only recall the material name. If the purpose remains unclear, simplify the sentence before adding more advanced vocabulary.

Practise the first question from another student

Have your partner ask why you chose the example or what you mean by the material term. Answer in one or two sentences without reading. If you need repetition, ask calmly and continue with the point you understood. This is a different task from reading your opening. Keep one recording of each so a teacher can distinguish trouble with word production from trouble organising an answer while listening.

Test transfer to a second seminar topic

After working on one term, introduce a different material or question using the same structure. Ask a listener to summarise the topic and purpose. If clarity only appears in the memorised version, practise from keywords rather than the full script. An automated word estimate cannot grade your seminar contribution or guarantee audience understanding; use it alongside the listener’s specific account of what arrived.

Try it yourself

Try the conversation

“Oggi presento un progetto sui materiali riciclati. Vorrei discutere la scelta del materiale. Potresti ripetere la domanda?”
  1. Read the example and check that you understand each sentence. Use fictional details; record once at a comfortable pace without trying to imitate a whole accent.
  2. Choose one word or phrase that matters to this situation. Make one deliberate adjustment, then repeat the complete example rather than only the isolated item.
  3. Ask an adult partner to listen without seeing the script and explain what they understood. Note whether they recovered the topic, purpose and follow-up answer.
  4. Change one detail and repeat without reading the full script. Compare understanding with the first attempt under similar recording conditions.

Common questions

What should I check in this particular practice?

Ask a listener to recover the topic, purpose and follow-up answer. Give them the audio without the text first, because a visible script makes unclear details easier to guess. Compare their answer with your intended message and select one mismatch to practise. Then try a changed example, so you test a reusable habit rather than one memorised recording.

What does the online result establish?

It is a model estimate for the submitted sample, not certification or guaranteed intelligibility. For this non-English target, the feedback is at word level; do not assume a separate diagnosis of each sound. Listen to the recording and seek a teacher’s demonstration if you need an explanation the result does not provide.

Does my first language tell me what I must fix?

It can suggest questions to investigate, but it cannot diagnose your individual recording. Your learning history, reading habits and exposure differ from another learner’s. Choose a problem observed in your own sample and check whether it affects listener understanding. If the issue is unfamiliar vocabulary or an ambiguous sentence, practise that separately from producing the word.
