Mandarin pronunciation test for supplier quantities and dates

For an English-speaking buyer, use Flalingo’s Chinese pronunciation test with its zh-CN Mandarin reference for word feedback, then confirm quantities and delivery dates in a role-play. The reference does not cover all Chinese varieties, and the result is not automatic tone diagnosis or validation of a purchase order.

Choose one order detail before the whole negotiation

Imagine discussing a fictional sample order: three boxes requested for Friday. Your practice goal is communicating the quantity and date, not negotiating all commercial terms in Mandarin. Write a short request and a confirmation question. Use invented order information. A listener should be able to write the intended details after one hearing; a fluent-sounding paragraph that leaves the number uncertain is not enough for this task.

Keep the language reference explicit

The test reference is zh-CN Mandarin. Do not describe it as an assessment of every language or variety commonly called Chinese. If your supplier uses another variety, this exercise may not match the conversation you need. Establish a shared language before practising. The page’s word feedback supports a narrow Mandarin sample; it does not establish dialect coverage or your ability to communicate across every regional context.

Use a model without inventing tone diagnosis

Listen to a reliable spoken version of your selected word or phrase, especially if English spelling habits shape how you read pinyin. Check your own sample rather than assuming all English speakers make the same tonal mistake. The tool gives word feedback and does not promise an automatic explanation of each tone. For a tone-specific demonstration, bring the recording to a Mandarin teacher and request one actionable practice target.

Confirm the number after a deliberate change

Your partner deliberately repeats a different quantity or offers a new day. Respond with the intended detail and ask for confirmation. This introduces listening, correction and pacing that an isolated word cannot test. If you know the number alone but lose it inside the phrase, shorten the sentence and leave room around the quantity. In actual business communication, use the appropriate written confirmation alongside speech.

Compare the final order notes

Both practice partners write the quantity and date independently at the end. Compare the notes, then repeat with a new fictional number. Keep the word estimate separate from order accuracy: it cannot validate terms, certify Mandarin level or guarantee that a real supplier understood the commitment. The useful evidence is whether the two people recovered the same details and could repair a deliberate mismatch calmly.

Try it yourself

Try the conversation

“我们需要三箱。请星期五送货。请再说一遍数量。”
  1. Read the example and check that you understand each sentence. Use fictional details; record once at a comfortable pace without trying to imitate a whole accent.
  2. Choose one word or phrase that matters to this situation. Make one deliberate adjustment, then repeat the complete example rather than only the isolated item.
  3. Ask an adult partner to listen without seeing the script and explain what they understood. Note whether they recovered the quantity and delivery date.
  4. Change one detail and repeat without reading the full script. Compare understanding with the first attempt under similar recording conditions.

Common questions

What should I check in this particular practice?

Ask a listener to recover the quantity and delivery date. Give them the audio without the text first, because a visible script makes unclear details easier to guess. Compare their answer with your intended message and select one mismatch to practise. Then try a changed example, so you test a reusable habit rather than one memorised recording.

What does the online result establish?

It is a model estimate for the submitted sample, not certification or guaranteed intelligibility. For this non-English target, the feedback is at word level; do not assume a separate diagnosis of each sound. Listen to the recording and seek a teacher’s demonstration if you need an explanation the result does not provide.

Does my first language tell me what I must fix?

It can suggest questions to investigate, but it cannot diagnose your individual recording. Your learning history, reading habits and exposure differ from another learner’s. Choose a problem observed in your own sample and check whether it affects listener understanding. If the issue is unfamiliar vocabulary or an ambiguous sentence, practise that separately from producing the word.
